What's up with this guy? Last year we saw that he was a deep threat with his speed. I don't remember him stepping on the field this year, except for 1 play. IMO, he's too dynamic not to get the ball in his hands. Just think on those redzone plays, throwing a quick WR screen to Smith. It'd be hard for a DB to keep him from getting those few yards for a touchdown.

Slayton and Ryan Davis are playing better than he ever did.

So why aren't we dialing one up in the redzone? Fear of turnovers?

Davis may be better at the screens, but he doesn't have the top end speed Smith does.

And you're basing this off what exactly?

Watching them play. Of course I haven't seen them throw it deep to Davis, but Smith was always flying by the DB last year.

He's far from a good WR

Nobody said he was, but who on the roster right now has shown that they are besides Marcus Davis? Maybe Kyle Davis, but they don't give him that many opportunities.

We recruited the top WR class in the country last year. Only so many spots on the depth chart for converted Qbs to play

Marcus Davis isn't a good wr either, lol. Ryan Davis has looked very explosive and shifty on his few touches and in my opinion I agree he looks better than Smith did ON THE SCREENS.

Jason Smith made some big plays down the field last year.

He did have some explosive plays, but one was a lucky tipped ball in the Alabama game that went for 77 yards.

He scored 2 TDs and had 13 receptions for 203 yards. Very pedestrian.

Smith is good and would get solid playing time on almost any Auburn team over the last decade. But we now have more talent at WR than we've had in possibly longer that. He's just been passed over by 4 very good freshmen and Tony Stevens has also finally stepped up, so that doesn't leave much left for Smith.

or because auburn rarely ran the 4-2-5 against lsu and was in a 4-3 for the majority of the game where ford moves back to safety due to the nature of lsu's offense

Good lord, how do you guys watch these games and surmise that we are somehow loaded with proven quality receivers?

If you watched LSU play this year would you come to the conclusion that they are laden with quality receivers?
