It's painfully obvious that AU football is trending toward the bottom of the SEC

If AU is serious about competing we must have a change at the top. Highest paid football coaching staff in the entire NCAA and we are not getting a return on investment.

Consistent top-10 recruiting classes = trending towards the bottom? Christ, some of you are so dramatic.

You could have just bumped your last few auburn board threads.

You recycle the same idea after every auburn football thing happens. Your melt is boring to me

Interesting Article on Rivals...JGT (Malzahn Double Down)....

Long Article... Biggest take away for me:

He (Malzahn) was a dictator for most of his time as Auburn's coordinator and at Arkansas State in 2012. He's worked hard as Auburn's head coach to cede control over certain aspects of the organization to his assistants, which is both necessary and difficult for Malzahn to do. It'll always be difficult for him to do.

We're told Malzahn is planning to reprise his dictatorial role this fall. And, really, that makes a lot of sense. (Not sure I agree)

Explains a lot though...

I don't disagree w Luke. 2 in 6 years - big thumbs up. Other 4 years? Nowhere close to achieving good things. Consistency is nowhere to be found. Gus has not produced as expected. He is loyal to a fault to his beliefs on play calling, personnel, etc despite evidence that he should consider that he might be wrong. And he does not produce loyal coaches from what we have seen. All scenarios are different, but in general, lots of our guys have shagged arse over the past couple of years. I think he is a peculiar dude and that's tough to tolerate day in and day out when the grass is greener with non-peculiar people elsewhere.

Honestly, I'm okay with that.

He should succeed or fail on his own terms.

I'm not really even sure what to think of that quote, or how it relates to Craig

I'm not in any way defending OP, but wouldn't having a worse record every year than the preceding year be considered trending downward? If not, what trend is that?

First off, what does our recruiting classes have to do with the way we're trending. We've maintained the same recruiting success since 2010 so that really has nothing to do with this conversation.

Second, saying we're trending to the bottom of the SEC is greatly exaggerated. The team we put on the field last year was better than any team Chizik put on the field (minus 2010). But it wasn't as good as the 2013 or 2014 teams so it is fair to say we're trending downwards.

Finally, if Malzahn is truly becoming a dictator then I think that's a good thing.

Yes we're trending downward. 7 wins last season and between 5-7 coming this season. Lost 3-4 awesome recruiters and coaches.

AU is trending toward the bottom because Malzhan cannot produce wins consistently with a talented roster including top ten recruiting classes. 7-6 , 8-5, we are supposed to accept this with the $$$ being paid out for nonloyal coaches??? Rebuilding the entire staff will not equate 10 wins next season, he will not beat our rivals as evidenced by past performance minus a top tier QB at the helm, he blew evaluating JJ's ability to lead the team last season period... AU cannot win with superior QB play and we do not have that in the program now

You can't say we're trending downwards based on your projections for the coming season.

We aren't trending towards the bottom though. It's more like we're trending towards middle of the road.

Like I said, you're exaggerating things. But as others have said that's what you always do so I'm not sure why I'm surprised

i feel like the 2009 team would have pretty easily outscored last years team, considering our inept offense and QB. JJ makes Chris Todd look like freaking Danny Wuerffel

Hell the way things are going this offseason I would not be surprised if we win the NC next year. Saving Gus job and Jay Jacobs arse. It seems to have the makings of the Auburn football recipe for coming out of left field to win it all.
