It's clear this team is really talented.

We have talent all over the field. I feel like we just need to clean a lot of things up and get healthy.

Johnson has the talent but needs to learn to not force things to happen. Run game was good for the first game. Oline always seem to gel later on in the season.

Defense looked pretty good. Struggled containing the QB (the QB running a 4.4 40 probably didn't help though) and got a little less push after Lawson left.

I concur with all of that.

Agreed. Biggest issues that stood out were JJ's reads and the injuries. Assuming that JJ can get in the film room and learn from his mistakes, I expect two weeks is enough for the knocks and bruises to heal. It was a good game to eliminate the hype for the team going into the season and improve.

I was super impressed with Danzey. He was blowing open some holes for run game. And we got talent on that DL if Lawson stays healthy. This is the most talented team Gus has had. Gotta get healthy & JJ has to learn what a checkdown is

The only thing I am worried about is if Lawson and Matthews are made of glass. I mean, frick guys. Hopefully, Malzahn just set them because we were up big, and is looking for the long haul.

Defense balled out for the most part.

Now if they could just stop a speed sweep...

They did in the first 3 quarters and collapsed. It seems once Lawson left the game there was barely any pressure on the QB. They came back with the quickness. That tells me we are limited with depth. I know I know first game but frick it pissed me off.

The depth on defense was my biggest concern going into the season and that was very evident today.

Thats why I am worried about Lawson. Some people just stay injured.

ETA:

Barber has the Tre Mason burst through the line tho. It was nice to watch.

I think we will be in trouble if we lose Matthews and Lawson
