My buddy, who is a high school coach in Alabama, told me that the improvement we saw on defense for last year's Birmingham Bowl was more Travis Williams than Lance Thompson.

Lance Thompson, having been giving the interim DC job, left the LB coaching at that point and up to the bowl game to T-Will, while he performed the role of coordinator.

Considering how much better our LBs played in that game and how much they've improved since then, I believe it.

Travis is doing a great job. Love the threads preseason complaining about how much we were paying Steele to come here.

Our defense was playing pretty good ball and headed in the right direction at the tail end of the season BUT before the Memphis game. I appreciate Muschamp for that before anybody else. Our current coaches has built upon last year and have benefited from a very strong DL.

Give me your downvotes, bitches.

Not sure what Travis doing a good job has to do with paying Kevin Steele

Given what we knew about Steele when we hired him, we probably did overpay him. I always liked the hire though just raised eyebrows at the price. Auburn had talent but bad fundamentals instruction, Kevin Steele was known as a great teacher of fundamentals and doing your job

RahRah speeches only take you so far though, Steele has done a better job gameplanning and getting us to tackle better. He also has the Saban/Muschamp do your job mentality

Muschamp deserves a ton of credit for reigniting the fire and energy on defense. We may have lacked in areas, but it was the first time since Fairley we played angry

Steele was a great fit for taking a reenergized team and teaching them fundamentals and job responsibility. Guy doesn't seem like a creative D genius, but he sure as heck makes sure his players don't make mistakes

I think the point is that we needed both guys to have this elite defense.

Muschamp reignited the fire and passion on defense that I don't think Steele could pull off. Steele has taught fundamentals/basic job responsibility at a level I don't think Muschamp could do

Champ brought in Davis, who I our best corner in a decade. The guy is an a-hole, and probably a terrible HC, but his ability to spot talent is second to none.

Davis was a 4 star prospect who was considered a strong Ohio state lean... muschamp did a good job overhauling our defensive recruiting in a short time, but it's not like Carlton was some nobody diamond in the rough prospect.

Without popping my head into the recruiting thread could someone catch me up on how of defensive recruiting is going post-Boom Era? Is it at the level we need to sustain this success? I know we've got a bunch of good young guys waiting in the wings from last year's class

He finds lock down corners. Look at his time at UF. Same thing. It is impressive.

No, hopefully we can continue to have success on the field and get some guys to take a second look.
