I don't feel great about our win last night...

I kinda feel like our win last night has an asterisk next to it. Okay, not even an asterisk. It was legitimate. But it just feels... off. We were half a second away from losing that game with absolutely zero production in the red zone. We had 6 field goals (thank you Daniel Carlson) even though it should have been 8 (thank you Gus and Rhett)... This may be the first time after beating LSU that I haven't felt elated and excited about the rest of the season. Our defense is definitely stout, but our offense is inexorably lost. I feel like most people consider last night's win indicative of how bad LSU is as opposed to how good Auburn is.
Sorry for the semi-melt. I just don't feel great about the direction we're going. Auburn is a mediocre team that can win ugly games with good defensive play. Is this the most we can hope for this year?

You need to celebrate any SEC win no matter how ugly, we may not get any more.

If AU kicks the field goal at the end of the half, it probably wouldn't have mattered. If Stevens catches the TD pass in the hands, it probably wouldn't have mattered. LSU has a very good D. The red zone struggles, while worrisome, were against a very good secondary and Dline, where things should become a lot harder for an offense. The most important thing, AU scored more than LSU.
ETA: I keep hearing about how lost the offense is based on the field goals, but AU still had right at 400 yards on offense yesterday without huge plays while winning TOP. If AU finds a way to ease the red zone struggles, things change dramatically.
Moral of the story is this: AU does not have to have the electric offense of the past to win ball games considering how well the defense is playing. If AU did, the defense probably would not be as good and AU would not be winning the TOP.

^^this x 1000.
Going for it with only 44 seconds left in half was not a sound decision. I could agree if there had been 7 minutes or even 5 minutes left in the half.
We had first and goal at the 5 that time i think.
Wildcat? No threat to throw.

I'm never going to turn my nose at an SEC win, especially one against LSU.
I get your point though. We have significant problems on offense, especially in the red zone. That is going to kill us in upcoming games if it doesn't get resolved, but we got a nice stretch of time to start to do that.

Auburn is ranked #33 nationally in TOP. The defense is ranked in the top 30 in points allowed. AU is not far off from being great. If the red zone is figured out, AU will blow the top off of the rest of the season. It just seems most AU fans bitched and moaned about wanting a defense, now that AU has one and the offense is playing for TOP and to the defense, they're complaining about the offense. I don't know if anything could please some of AU's fans. It's like they always want what they don't have.

I know things have been ugly, but this is just dumb. We've played 3 pretty good teams.
We will beat Vandy and MSU. Gus will have to try to frick those up, those are two pitiful teams. We should beat Georgia unless they improve tenfold between now and then, and Arkansas is very beatable as well. IMO Ole Miss is beatable as well and being vastly overrated after shellacking Georgia, but at this point we wouldn't be able to score enough to beat them.
5-3 in SEC is extremely realistic. Less than 4-4 is a disappointment.

I thought it was a good win over a top 20 team. I wish it would have been more convincing. I think it should have been more convincing. Any SEC West win is a good win though.

Normally, I would only get all excited if we played perfect. But in my older age, I am just tired of losing to our rivals. Especially late. I know we can play better, we should play better and at some point we will But for now, I am happy to have the W against LSU and hopefully, we can get a few more.
Im tired of the stats and crap that keep coming up how we cant beat our SEC rivals. Id like to blow them out but we won, its over and we move on.
We have actually done well against LSU over the past 6 or so years at home. We are 3-1 in our last 4 and lets be honest, we pretty much out played them in 2012 the they won 12-10. They have killed us away but we have handled them at home
Next is to beat Arkansas and UGA and I dont care how ugly or what the score it. Just win baby win

An ugly win is better than a pretty loss. Wins a win man. I saw improvements in the offense. Hopefully when we are in the rz we can actually cross the goal line. With Lam next week we can improve it further before msu.

My point is that right now, this team is not consistent enough to have gimme wins in the SEC. They are playing better and my hope is the ULM game will help them solidify the offense a little more and have it be more productive against MSU.

This.
In some years/times I would agree with you but we aren't in position to be worried about winning pretty right now.

If this were a one time thing you would be correct, when it's been a consistent problem for over two years and it's pretty clear things aren't going to change.
We did it last night but you simply can't win with any consistency playing like we do in the red zone.

It was great seeing a win at home against an SEC west rival. It was another exciting finish at Jordan Hare and I'm just glad we found a way to pull it out. LSU has their own offensive struggles obviously, but they have a great defense, maybe the best running back in college, and are probably a 7 or 8 win team. This isn't like we barely beat Nichols State or Mizzou.
We looked like the better team most of the night too. Yes the red zone struggles are real and need to get sorted out. But I like the pieces we have on offense and we were able to move the ball fairly consistently against a good defense. We have to try something new in the red zone though. Throw some fade routes to Kyle Davis or try some slant routes in the end zone. Maybe we should try and use Franklin more in the red zone.
If Gus can figure this out I think we can play with any team in the country. So far we have played with 2 top 10 teams, beat down an over matched opponent like you're supposed to, and won a tough sec match up. Let's see how the season plays out. I hope Gus is learning a lot this season, and we continue to improve throughout the year. We have a great chance at 8 wins and our team is pretty young. So right now, I'm happy... But that could change quickly.

Replay of game is on SEC network right now, if you can stand to watch it again.

Not that it matters, but the video to overturn the call of no TD did not show clear evidence to me.
Looked like "play stands" from those views.
Does not matter

Yea, pretty much what I said. Other times, I would be looking for better execution, play calling and a much more rounded win. Right now, Im glad we did not get beat. Thats all that mattered.
Im still not happy that we are struggling so much, especially on offense but I wont let that ruin my enjoyment while it lasts.
We can win a few more games. But make no mistake, we have not turned any kind of corner and I do not see it getting better. Something has to change to make it better
