Say we have a season like, say, 2008 where we go 5-7, 6-6 but are at least reasonably competitive in most games.

Would you be in favor of keeping Gus if it meant getting Stidham next year and Gatewood after that or would you be off the bus no matter what?

If we go 7-6 with 5/6 losses 10 points or less I am fine keeping Gus.

malzahns future is at CO, not HC....the sooner he is removed from the head coach position, the sooner the football program can begin the, once again, long climb out of the abyss....keeping malzahn under any conditions is a mistake....he is over his head and that will prove out this season for those that are ignoring the warning signs

At first we all bitched about Malzahn can only run an offense and our defense will forever suck.

Now we are all stoked about our defensive talent and potential that happened under his watch and think he can't be HC because our offense sucks

One thing to keep in mind....Coaches are always a Qb away from career longevity.

eta: or from career suicide

Outside of a 2012 type year, I'm for keeping him one more year

Well Jay certainly will pay CGMs buyout considering his dumbass gave him an extension... This team better go 9-4 or else

I will be upset if we continue to trend downward. Last year we still managed a winning record with the worst offense CGM has ever fielded, high school or college level.

I will be happy with 8 regular season wins this year. Ecstatic with 9 regular season wins considering all the question marks heading into the season.

if coach doublebubble wins 8 games, then i am off his arse....i will be satisfied with that, all things being considered, but i doubt that he can do that without a QB, or quality runningback.....i still can't believe kevin steele is the DC.....i really doubt that this team wins over 4 games

Why do you say we don't have a quality running back? What about K. Johnson and KP? They are both more talented than Barber and he managed to eclipse 1000 yards.

QB's make or break coaches in the modern game. Richt finally missed and he is gone. If Gus can survive this year I am relatively optimistic about the future.

If we play competitive football and are in a dog fight every game (sans the cupcakes) Gus is back regardless of wins-losses.

According to what exactly?

I have no idea how good he will be but I don't see how anyone can make this determination based on the available information

I see us having another 2008 year in which we had a good defense and bad offense.

5 - 7 overall

2- 4 in the sec with wins over Vandy and one win against Arky, Miss St, T A&M or Georgia

Maybe we get lucky and win 3 sec games and go back to Birmingham bowl.

And even with all that, I would keep Gus one more year.

Everybody talks about overall records.

What about how in the last number of years Alabama and Georgia pretty much own us? With LSU right there.
