With the offensive philosophy that Malzahn has run for 2 years as head coach, yes we run a hurry up to the line offense. But we aren't running tons of plays and actually run a ball control type offense.

Why does everyone say that with this offense, we can't have a good defense to match with it?

Look at Clemson's defensive ranking this year. It can be done.

It can be done if the time of possession is equal or in your favor. Auburn with Gus as head coach has a greater TOP than our opponents and our TOP and Bama's are about the same.

We can have a good defense.

It is basically a talking points type thing.

Auburn wins 2010 and 2013 SEC championship.

"der, AU has no defense, just Cam and luck. Blah, blah, blah."

Pretty much this. We averaged 30 minutes TOP per game this year, putting right around 40-50ish in the NCAA. So TOP has absolutely nothing to do with our crappy defense. We had the same TOP as Florida, who had a crap offense and still had a top 10 defense.

We had a better TOP than Georgia, and about a minute less than Bama.

Gus went out and got Ellis. Didn't work - even though it looked like it should have. I expect Muschamp to be on the sidelines next year and at minimum we will be playing with a lot more toughness. We have the players. We need the X's and O's and a different mentality. Gus also has to put more focus on Defense. This may mean spending less time with the Offense and let Rhett own more of the offense. The quick fire means it matters to Gus.

It can be done. Up til now we have not had a DC that teaches aggressive football. Gang tackling and hitting with bad intentions has been absent since Tubs left. Boom will bring that back (hopefully)

Our TOP is also skewed to look worse than it really should be because the defense can't get off the field. When your defense allows huge amounts of yards and struggles to make the other team punt your TOP is not going to be as good.

I think with a top 40 defense Auburn would dominate TOP.

You should not lose when scoring 44 points against the SEC best defense at there house. Period.

Ellis did not get it done. Something may have happened, but defensive chemistry was not there. One bad game can happen (offense against UGA), but the defense never stopped anyone sans a freshman QB on a defensive team (LSU).

With any defense we go 10-2 at worse.
