If given the power, what would you do to get our offense back on track?

Clone cam, Sammy, bo Jackson, and Beasley

Honestly if you just put cam out there it'd be a top 5 offense in the country.

Throw the ball downfield, and take out any WR that wasn't actually running their route. Until that happens, no team is going to respect anything but the run. And they will continue to be overly aggressive at the line of scrimmage. That means screens, short passes, jet sweeps, etc. won't be worth a crap.

We have to figure out what we can do on offense first. We know we have a pretty solid running game. The sample size from passing plays is way to small to establish anything. We may very well be one dimensional, but at least give us a chance by throwing the ball some. So i'd say the first step would be Gus and Rhett getting there heads out of there arse.

Overhaul the playbook and turn White loose. It's like Gus never adjusted for not having a running QB. It's probably too late for that though.
Realistically, we're probably just screwed. Part of the reason for Johnson's failure was the coaches having a crappy playbook for him.

Pass the ball more... I understand take what the defense is giving you, but the element of surprise is worth something.
2 passes in a half is crazy.

1. Never run a sweep with Ricardo again.
2. Run sweeps with Stanton Truitt / KJ
3. Target Duke Williams at least 9 times a game.
4. Keep fresh legs in at RB ROC PB Jovon KJ
5. RB screens to KJ and ROC
6. Quick slants behind the LBs because LBs are playing run.
7. Call some routes that let Duke and Melvin Ray use their big bodies to box out dB's.
8. Send Toney Stevens and Ricardo on more streaks.
9. Hit the Hbacks in the flats. Especially in red zone.
10. Incorporate a TE into the offense to at least make someone cover him.
11. More read option
12. More Tempo

I would rip the gimmick shite out of the play book first. Secondly, I would design and call plays that got the ball in the hands of our playmakers. Say what you want about Duke, but I want him actively involved in the passing game with atleast 5 to 10 passes thrown his way a game. I want Kerryon touching the ball in space as well. I would get Barber running downhill and play action pass off of him.
I would start playing with pace again, instead of trying to milk the clock. Motion would be added back into the offense. Finally, I would turn White loose. If I'm gonna start him, I am going to have full faith in him to run the offense and we are not gonna handicap ourselves to put training wheels on him.

Throw the ball on 1st down.
Against SJSU... 22 1st down plays, 2 pass plays for 47 yards (42 & 5).
Against MSU... 35 1st down plays, 12 pass plays (8 completions) for 66 yards, 2 incompletions, 2 sacks.
9 of the 12 pass plays called on first down happened in the 4th fricking quarter.

Put Jason Smith at QB, I'm sure he can make the same simple one read passes in the flat they are letting Sean White throw and he would be a much better runner.
If you are going to keep White in you have to let him throw. Maybe he can do it, maybe he can't but you have to find out. You can't win doing what we are doing right.
Oh, and bench Duke.

I understand we're supposed to trust our coaches, but this shite is making me lose faith in Gus. I wish we understood the reasoning for the play calling thus far, but I just can't find a good one at all. I defended the Mickey Mouse offense talk many times, but after I watched Duke/Davis turn there heads to Louis as soon as they started there routes I started to agree. Our WR route trees are so simple its unbelievable..and I don't understand it.

Uh...what. The playbook got smaller because every time he threw down field it got picked, bounced off a defender's hands or skipped across the turf. I'm pretty sure that Gus wasn't going to limit the plays from the beginning of the season.

The sweeps fail when we don't set the edge. Not because of Ricardo. When there are 4 defenders waiting, it's tough to put that on #5. I do agree that Truitt and my wayward son look electric and I'd like to see them more.

It was a crappy playbook full of plays from when Marshall was running around everywhere. It was full of single read plays that were designed for the threat of a running QB. Defenses sat in cover 2 and feasted. Don't get me wrong, JJ was bad, but the playbook didn't do him any favors.

So one of your solutions, not just for the offense but for the team, is to reward a player who doesn't play hard every play and has consistently displayed on the field that he doesn't give a shite?
How is the good state of North Carolina at this time of year, Coach Chizik?

This is true. For anyone that wants to see what could have been, go back and watch the open drive against Louisville. It's hard to believe how far we have gotten away from that.

quote:And they are sitting down on the LOS because we do nothing but run the ball on standard downs. No corner should be looking for pass plays against us on 1st & 10, 2nd & 5, or 3rd and 3. They should play the sweep because it's so predictable.
