Phan comes to mind, along with hawgfanic. The problem, as someone else mentioned, is how easy it is for there to be a ton of alters who keep doing the same crappy stuff.

From my end, and there might be some technical issues on your end I don't know about, having the ability to block the posts of people that are trolls/shitty posters would be the easiest thing.

Wouldnt a shitty poster who does nothing but agitate and disrupt the boards/threads be considered a troll as well?

I don't think they're mutually exclusive

That defines 75% of the people on trant.

True, but it would deter future generations of mindless trolls. And, it wouldn't stop a new poster from posting, just from starting new threads.

ultimately if the admins had a more visible authority, shitty posters and trolls would be a bit more scared. Right now you cant even tell for sure if someone is banned. Troll threads stay on the board, occasionally are anchored, etc..

Posters dont really see any repercussions and some of the worst have no fear of even a ban, because they are just going to create their 100th alter

Remember that most of the trolls are alters and know how to build post counts. They would run to the IM threads or game threads and build up post counts to defeat the purpose of the new rule

Post counts are one of the most useless features of message boards for the most part. It typically makes some people feel superior because they have been somewhere longer or spend more time every day there. They really mean nothing.

There are some people on this particular site who have over 50K posts and less than 100 of them are productive posts that add to the discussion.

Too many rules will kill this site.

This is the correct thinking. If you are going to add more policing/rules. Do it the correct way. Attack the problem at the problem instead of putting in a bunch of meaningless rules that perpetrators will eventually work around

I'd utilitze the up/down vote as a self-moderation tactic. Posts that reach a certain number of downvotes should automatically be kicked out. How hard would that be to implement?

Fair point, but the lack of rules, or at least the application of rules, is killing tRant imho. NYC made a good point, if admins were more visible and ban hammered people that were cluttering up the boards, it might make a difference.

Chicken, the best thing to happen was to create the individual school boards.

The Rant is basically a Troll Board which is OK.

Anything you put in, besides constant monitoring will fail.

Maybe allow administrators to move threads to a TROLL BOARD.

How are you going to use that when anyone can uproot/downvote a post at anytime for any reason. Then you would have to Monitor the people who are uprooting/downvoting.

Any post made by a Alabama poster would immediately be downvoted by every LSU poster.

Sounds like Chicken needs a little more policing by valued people who will make good decisions.

I was a admin for one of the biggest fishing sites on the internet back in the late 90's and early 2000's. They had the same issue. You need a few admins that will make good decisions and let them delete/ban people

We need Reckonings! (anyone watch/read Wayward Pines? )

Knowing if someone is banned could help serve as a notice to others. A "Banned" status under their profile seems like an easily programmable fix.

Having the Admins that are specifically assigned to tRant post more on tRant would help as well. Ice and SECond (if they are even still our Admins) appearances are few and far between. I think the best solution for monitoring tRant is to have an Admin(s) that actively posts on the SECRant Boards. That way we have Admins that we are familiar with, but more importantly, they are familiar with the posters they are monitoring.

Reasonable threads aren't downvoted. Regardless, when the threshold was reached, the thread could get kicked to an admin for final say.

The team boards are the best thing yall have ever done for this site.

The SECr is over run with trolls. It hard to have any kind of conversation there without it turning into a shitshow. Some visible adminning would solve the problem.
