If there's one small ray of light that something on this offense might change this year, its the addition of Herb Hand.

And StatTiger over at Scout has an excellent view of why:

Time for a glimmer of hope?

15-0?

The idea of a two back gun with Cox or Pettway as the dive option of the triple option does sounds good for short yardage situation. Both were more athletic than I expected.

Pettway carrying the football brings a smile to my face. Dude can lay a lick.

He was looking for someone to run in to.

That crazy mother fricker used to smack his own helmet against his forehead before the game. He always gave himself gashes. I can't imagine having to go against him in practice.

Gus Malzahn is way, way too stubborn to change anything.

But if he did...

John Franklin III, Jovon Robinson, Chandler Cox and Kam Pettway...all lined up in the backfield. Misdirection and pounding the ball galore. It makes me salivate thinking about it. Stick two guys out wide, and pound the ball down the throat of the defense.

I have, it doesn't look great, but I have a feeling Auburn would be a lot better at running than passing.

I was worried he was going to hurt one of the DBs every time he got a carry.

If we're talking run game, JF3 could fill that role easily. Now, he has a ways to go in really perfecting the zone read and when to give/keep.....not to mention he's got some work to do in the passing game to catch up to Pat White, but as an athlete he's ahead of where White was.

Did our 1st team OL REALLY look that bad to you in our glorified vanilla scrimmage vs. the 2nd team defense? They looked just fine to me. They certainly weren't the 2013 OL or anything, but they weren't the 2012 OL either. We have talent everywhere and adding Cox and Pettway is like having a 6th or 7th OL out there. I think we can work with the OL we have, especially running into the interior.

Cox seems to always miss the first guy to block and moves to the second level. He did it Sat and I remember last year. DE's are too talented to let run free on power runs. 3 yds is better than tackle for loss.

I'm a much higher on Pettway as a blocker than Cox. He is a road grater

That said, as far as missing blocks go, Prosch had the same issue early in 2013. I'm hoping Cox can figure it out. He still isn't as bad as 2014 Brandon Fulse

On the HerbHand/RichRod influence subject though, I'd be on board for a JF3 triple optionesque offense.

I just don't know if JF3 is up to it. Thats hard for a QB
