A young offensive co-ordinator with a proven older OC on staff looking over his shoulder, im sure nothing could go wrong.

Analysts have very limited interaction with players supposedly

I remember one article saying that they mostly do game film breakdowns and situational analysis for head coaches.

Yea, analysts really can't interact with players much in any actual coaching capacity. They are more for game planning and film breakdown than anything else.

I think Borges will be perfect in this role.

It's always been said that he wasn't terribly enthusiastic as a recruiter, and in recent years his 'Gulf Coast' offense hasn't been as effective as it was 10-12 years previously, so his days as an OC are probably over at the major college level. It's a good fit for a guy approaching the end of his career (he's 61), and I think he'll be a tremendous asset.

Plus I bet we can find Nikki a job somewhere again...

These new analysts roles seem like a great way to benefit from good football minds that aren't cut out to be elite recruiters

Even if his offense is outdated, he has experience + knowledge that is helpful from a smaller role. I'm sure being oldschool he can break down film like a champ too

Seem to recall that's how he got the job back in '04.

I remember the AU fanbase being almost universally disappointed with the original hire, after expecting some 30-something hotshot with HC aspirations to come in.

I still contend that Borges AU career started downhill when he got KTFO on the sidelines during the 2nd quarter '05 Iron Bowl, when we were up 21-0. I don't think our offense was ever quite the same after that. And Tubs was more than happy to throw him under the bus at the end of the '07 season, even though '08 clearly proved that he wasn't the main problem.

In addition to Borges not having to recruit he'll open Chip Lindsey up to spending more time developing QBs.

I think this is a home run hire.

look I'm trying my arse off to be negative until proven wrong but damn if it isnt getting difficult to maintain. between seeing an actual offense and actual QB again in the spring game and now this... I keep waiting for the alarm clock to go off.

I imagine he's on the short list at the very least. I guess the biggest concern is his recruiting ability, so maybe we try to pick up another coach between now and January

I read in an article that Gus had been hoping this would happen. In the past, Gus said he would use it for a Special Teams Coach. He kind of backed away and said he has "options". This does not begin until Jan. 2018, so he has plenty of time.
