I think we can beat Mizzou this week.

One day at a time. Football is a funny game. Sometimes a break or two can change a season. Sometimes teams improve over the course of the season.

The sudden surge of optimism is concerning.

It isn't optimism, it is realizing that the SEC / SECW sucks bad this year. This isn't 2014 w 4 top 25 SECW teams + worst team went 7-5

The SECW outside Bama looks like a typical SEC East season where we can ride our defense to ~5 Wins like UF has been doign recently

The five turnovers

A Gus team has never had a negative turnover margin. Hard to be too worried about this. 4 Fumbles in a game is a bad fluke and not a cause for concern

Did you all somehow miss Stidham holding onto the ball for way too long yesterday?

This is concerning, but it looked like a combo of Stidham slow in reads + refusing to be a gunslinger into coverage due to WR lack of separation

His speed at making reads should improve + improved confidence helps build a gunslinger

lack of urgency on our offense?

When has Gus ever had a sense of urgency? Gus has never been good at clock management

I see MSU, UGA, and Alabama as losses.

Clemson is easily better than both MSU/UGA and we lost 14-6 on the road with dumpster fire playcalling.

Not sure why MSU beating a Coach O dumpster fire LSU or UGA barely squeaking by a bad Notre Dame makes them sure losses.

We're dangerously close to a losing season if we don't fix a lot of major problems on offense.

If our team doesn't quit / Defense keeps playing around this level, we aren't even close to a losing season.

Mizzou/TAMU/Arkansas/Ole Miss don't know how to play football + we have a cupcake. That is a winning season right there of near guarantee wins if the team just shows up

Well yeah, but that's only because Mizzou is a bigger shite show than us. For instance, this was their stadium yesterday:

If we lose to them, Gus needs to be fired in the locker room.

It's not optimism. It's called not melting completely down 3 weeks in

A losing season is about as likely as a 10 win season right now. 8-4 is what I'm thinking

Stidham is getting better. Now, we just need to run someone else other then Pettway. We cant frick him up so early in the season by having him carry so much. Also, hopefully the line gets better.

So basically 14-1

your got damn right!

I know this is the Glass Half Full thread, but we were 4-1 and ranked #13 going into October 2008, and having almost an identical debate.

I'm hoping the only reason we looked so lackadaisical during the Mercer game is because of the emotional letdown after Clemson.

I think we'll know a lot more this weekend.

Fortunately, we get Ms State at home after they travel to UGA this weekend. If they beat UGA and our offense doesn't show signs of improvement against Mizzou, then we'll likely lose to them.

I think he also just lacks anticipation and knowing how to throw people open. He seems to really only want to make a throw if someone is wide open. Compound that with our refusal to run routes that cause DB's to have to make choices, we really handicap our WR's ability to get separation. When DB's know they can just turn and run with our WR's on routes, they won't be getting open.

In the Mercer game, it just looked like a sloppy effort. Those turnovers etc. Partly because of the spent emotions during the Clemson game or maybe just not getting "up" for an FBS team, I think subdued and sloppy would be the most generous words I could use to describe what I saw Saturday.

But again,we don't have to be the best team, just better than the next one we play. And it looks like we have that.

And as someone else said, Miss State will have come off a tough GA game in Athens followed by a game in AU.

Maybe I am wrong, but I seem to remember when I was younger it was always the offense that took longer to develop. So I would say having a defense capable of carrying you is a pretty good thing right now.

But we shall see.
