Where is a good place to live, besides "not Montgomery"?
Single. Don't give a damn about schools.

When I meet someone who is new to Montgomery I always ask, "How far out Vaughn Road is your house/apartment?"
Go east.
Go east.

Taylor/Vaughn road areas. Some nice new apartments are about to open downtown and the city is doing a good job in trying to make downtown not so shitty. But I think it is a year or two away from being shitty.

There were some snazzy looking lofts (at least from their webpage) downtown, but I don't know if Montgomery's downtown is worth living there for. Honestly haven't really been there much to even know what's there.

Anywhere near Montgomery Mall and you will be fine.

I lived / worked in "the gump" for 3 years. You definitely want to stay East of Taylor Road. Vaughn Rd has a few decent apartments just East of Taylor road but you're still not totally out of the woods there. I would go further East out to Chantilly Parkway around the Mityline Exit if you're on I85. That's a nice area lots of new apartment buildings a newer Academy / Dicks / Target / Walmarks / and a few miles behind the mall (the good mall).
If it's in your budget you could go further East down Vaughn cross over Old Pike Rd and rent a house in one of the several subdivisions out there.
There's also those apartments on Taylor close to the Troy Highway. I lived there for a while paid $900 a month for a 1 bedroom. There was only 1 murder there during my stay. Mostly Chinese people live there that work at the Hyundai plant.

Depends on where the job is. What part of town will you be commuting to every day?

Basically close to downtown. Off I85 exit 2 (or 3? I forget).

They are nice, we are doing a building similar but one step up in amenities in Birmingham for the same company right now. Downtown is getting better all the time, I have just been away for too long to have a firm bead on it right now. I do not think I would have any issue living by Riverwalk though.

Interested in leasing or buying? I've got a 3 bedroom 2 bath that will be available later this summer. Close to downtown in a good neighborhood.

Yeah, finally told the Navy to shove it after they pushed me back to November.

Good deal. That size company is great to work for. When you step up where I am at, the bullshite outweighs the work. You will find yourself working for a women that has no clue what your department does.

As long as I am making your kind of money I think I can do it.

Out east is good advice, but when looking for living quarters consider how long it will take you to get to I-85. Some commutes from east can be longer than commutes from cities to the north. The Wetumpka commute is almost always painless, the Prattville commute occasionally sucks.

You are on the right spots, the new lofts in Downtown is where I would go if I was single. There are at least 7 different properties. LINK
However, now that Montgomery has Uber, staying out east is OK.
You can walk downtown with a beer in a plastic cup and go from bar to bar... baseball stadium is around the corner, etc....
