Jordan Colbert looking Linebacker'ish at 6'1 226

He could be a beast at Safety if he doesn't lose a step. I'm sure the training will get his weight right

A lot of people can be blamed for us getting throttled by UGA those years.

He may be able to play that Nickle/SAM more full time than the ~45% LT said Sam would be on field.

I'm just agreeing with root's statement that during those years, the DB's stared down the receiver and never looked for the ball.

Ya... that's exactly what some defensive systems ask their DBs to do.

Look at guys like Darrelle Revis who is the best corner in the NFL and 5/8 seasons he has had 3 or less INTs with 3 extra games. Corners on an island are measured on breaking up passes not INTs.

You'll likely see the INTs from safeties be insane. Think Junior Rosegreen with 6 as they will play zone over the top playing QB and ball not WR

I'm not going to go into specifics but I really do look forward to the vague idea of watching a defense that makes stops...occasionally

to be fair, our CBs have been staring down the Qb instead of playing the WR for the past three years and its been the worst secondary play in Auburn history.

Our DBs, sans Chris Davis and Jonathan Jones, have done a poor job of staying in phase with the WR and THEN making a play on the ball once they read the reaction of the WR. I think we'll be better there.

great video of Gus speaking at GBAC Kick Off...very good info on there...Gus seems super cocky, and i love it...he's normally so stoic and reserved. Makes me think he knows what he's got this year.

This is the main thing. You can't turn around and make a play of the ba when you're beat or in a bad position. We just haven't had the guys that can get in the WRs pockets.

Ted Roof's defense had a big problem with the DB's looking for the ball as well. You have to admit, we have done much better the past two seasons with our DB's looking for the ball.

There are some great points in this thread about the defense. I think some of us/you should temper your expectations a little. I remember how excited we were when Van Gorder and Ellis came. Same type of discussion here.

Both failed at getting our defense back. Not sure Boom will come in and make a dramatic impact for a while. Takes time.

I'm assuming most ITT played sports at some kind of level in saying this.....

The MENTALITY of our defense was to blame for a shitload of our issues last year. Our D had no fight, no swagger, nothing. They were just trying to do their assignment and that's it (most of the time not doing their assignment and not even lining up correctly).

There are two specific things that i GUARANTEE will have improved and are at least worth a defensive TD per game, IMO.....
1. defenders actually caring about what they do/being excited to do it
2. not having a scheme that's easy to predict.

Those 2 things alone will improve our defense a lot. And really are things that you can bank on being done. Muschamp won't ALLOW for #1 to be an issue.

I agree to that. I have a feeling once our Dline makes a impact, we are going to be air raided again this year. That has been where our problems start.

So they did not care when the D won the game on the road on Thursday at Kansas State?

Im sure they did. Once we lost to Miss St, they never recovered. Even though the offense eventually shite in the bed against TAM, our defense was horrid that entire game.
