FWIW Insider info on the status of Gus

From a guy that's friends with prominent Auburn Football folks says Gus is done after the LSU debacle, not sure when he gets fired but it's happening. I'm not sure how reliable this info is but I know who he is friends with so I'm sure there is something to this.

Did he get the Lowdown? Any tips on building a deck included?

I just hope they fire Jay Jacobs before they pull the plug on Gus, JJ making another HC hire is a nightmare scenario.

What do we have to lose by firing him now? We would probably lose to UGA and Bama anyhow, but we KNOW we'll lost if he's still the headcoach, he's been losing big games since the 2014 national championship game. LSU won 5 of 7 after Miles was fired, losses to Alabama and UF (SEC championship game).

This is the first insider info I've got from this guy so that's why I'm cautious about reliability, my other insider move to California.

Does anyone have a good sense on what happened when we hired CGM regarding the hiring committee? Did JJ pick Bo, Pat and Mac to lead up the search committee or was that decided by someone else?

Official story is YES... Unofficial is that MAC made the decision.
With regards to if he is done, beat UGA and Bama and he is safe. No one expects that to happen. Beat one of them and go 9-3 he is safe. 8-4 he is done. 7-5 gets him fired 100%.
Remember he got a 1/2 million dollar raise this past summer to 4.75 million.
Malzahn would be owed $2,237,500 per year remaining on his contract if Auburn were to part ways with him. (so for three years, gets you to $6,712,650.. That is not a high buyout.

You get an interim coach that clouds the search and end up with someone like coach O.
We appoint Steele, he gets buy in from the players, maybe we beat someone we weren't supposed to, maybe we barely lose to Alabama in a thriller. Now, he's a candidate you have to deal with, but he's probably not the best candidate you could hire.

So there's no chance he's fired during the season? Sell the UGA and UA tix. I'm not watching 4 in row.

Well hopefully they're smart enough to see Gus is the problem, and smart enough to see that Coach O had a shitty record as a head coach, same as Steele.

I suspect Garner would be interim. One, because the coordinators would be busy with their job and two, for the reason you gave.

I believe nothing until JJ is gone

plot twist: JJ will make Kodi Burns interim due to him being a true auburn man

But who is the truest Auburn man of them all? Who has breathed the most Lee County air of them all? Who knows how much Auburn dirt has been plowed and toiled for four decades?
Jay Jacobs. That's who.
Jay Jacobs for interim coach. Start the movement!

JJ names himself interim coach so they can't fire him for several more months.

My insider close to things says JJ is out. It is a done deal and they are waiting for the right time with the FBI thing happening. Things are about done for Gus, but can't say for sure. If he loses to Arky or aTM, it won't matter what happens. Sounds like he is done for.
Time to move on.
Time to move on.

My thought about Steele too. I think he'd be a natural interim, but I'd like to preserve the chance he stays on as DC and no way I think that happens if we give him the interim tag.

After Saturday, Gus should have been Freshwatered in Baton Rouge.

Steele is 59, his only HC gig was a disaster, and it's been said here that his main motivation for taking the AU DC job was to vest in the state retirement system. He appears to be coaching his arse off this year, but I'm inclined to think he isn't interested in being the AU HC long term. And ultimately, on the minuscule chance that we actually do things the right way, we will want an incoming HC to decide who he wants as assistants, rather than forcing anyone on him (even someone with Steele's qualifications).
Looking at the rest of the staff, he's really the only logical choice for interim, if we were in need of one (for the record, I don't think there's much chance of Gustav getting the boot prior to the IB, if then).
My fear would be that Garner would lobby for the interim job in hopes he could pull an Orgeron, which would be the Most.Auburn.Thing.Ever.
