quote:
(Bruce) "I walked into Auburn Arena and I asked, 'Where is that Sports Illustrated picture of Chris Porter?' It's got to be around here some place. It's got to be around here big as life. Because I remember Auburn basketball being ranked No. 1 in the country. I want my guys to remember it wasn't so long ago that Auburn basketball was ranked No. 1 in the country, and that's because of the players who are here tonight."
quote:
"That basketball team right there is going to be picked near the bottom of the SEC. That basketball team right there will finish nowhere near the bottom of the SEC," Pearl said.
"I'm not asking you to be patient. We've been patient long enough.
"My goal is earn the respect, and as much as anything to earn the respect of some of the great coaches I'm following: Coach Eaves, coach Sonny Smith, coach Cliff Ellis. My goal is to do enough here to earn those coaches' respect."
quote:
"Two Sweet 16s, an SEC championship, three NCAA appearances, so it can be done," Ellis said as he turned to Pearl.
"Now, don't go .500 because the next year they fired me. I had one .500 team, and outta here."
That brought laugher.
"It wasn't funny at the time," Ellis said with a chuckle on himself.
quote:
Barkley: "I've been so blessed. I've had an amazing life. I'm an old geezer now. I came here in 1981. Auburn is amazing."
Barkley couldn't leave it there. He turned to Pearl and reminded him of what Ellis said.
"If you go .500, we're going to fire you, too," Barkley said.
"Hey," Pearl shot back, "if I go .500 and you fire me, have you seen my buyout? You'd have to donate a lot of money."
"I've got that," Barkley said without missing a beat, "in my back pocket."

He wasn't expecting to lose Atewe, Shamsid-Deen, and Mason for extended periods of time. Not sure how much higher we would've finished in the conference with them all healthy. Maybe 7-11.
He's done a remarkable job despite the record they posted compared to his prediction.

That and probably beat Tulsa, Texas tech, and coastal carolina in the noncon with a healthy atewe.
Oh well.
Oh well.

quote:Unlikely. Tulsa had control of that game the whole way. I don't think having Mason & Atewe would have gotten us a W there. The 3rd game you're looking for is Mizzou late in the season.
Tulsa

Hard not to be excited about basketball going forward. You can already see the turnaround on the court and in the stands.

I mean, technically, we finished in the top 4

quote:In the post season. I'm 1 of those people who is partial to the regular season and think regular season champs should get the NCAA auto bid instead of conference tourney champs. Actually I would expand the tourney to 96 w/ both regular season % tourney champs getting auto bids.`.

Should have won at Texas Tech, at Alabama, Georgia at home, at Mizzou, Coastal Carolina....those I can think of off the top of my head

quote:I had forgot about those. Good call. I'm not gonna worry about it though. There are only about 3 or 4 teams a year that does not lose games they are suppose to win.
Alabama, Georgia

We were pretty close to beating Kentucky both times we played them. I think if we could have scored 30-40 points more we could have played Arky for the SEC title.

Got to subtract a win from us since if we did that much better in conference games, we would have had a 1st RD bye (UGA, Mizz, Bama) and if we had depth I would say one of Tennessee/Ole Miss
