40 something yards worse than last year's D. Don't you think, at least Muschamp should be able to make somewhat an immediate impact.

It is downright pathetic.

Sucks to have had a DC who refused to recruit.

Anyone putting this on Muschamp is just looking for a scapegoat

Thanks for the update... we all watch the fricking games.

We gave up 24 points to a decent offense... then four tds in OT. We suck... but it's misleading.

honest question, did we go to OT with anyone last year? We were around 26 and a half ppg last year and take away the 30 in OT yesterday and we are roughly the same this year. rush defense is about 30 a game worse this year and passing is about the same.

A lot of this is due to losing 4 guys on the defensive line and having nothing behind them in place. Give us Whittaker, Blackson and Wright back on the line as bad as we hated them, we have a solid run defense this year that would probably be a bit better than last. Right now we are playing guys that would struggle to be two deep on the bottom half of the country's defenses.

Overtime stats should not count, but they do.

yep. That is another 15 ypg and another 3.5 ppg for the year so far just on the OTs.

I agree. He needs two years to correct this decade long shite show. If it can be corrected Muschamp can do it.

Recruiting isn't all of it. It clearly is a cultural thing.

You don't need a defense full of high NFL draft picks to be good. We proved that for years under Tuberville. We need the Bill Belichick motto of "Do your job" and guys who play tough.

Don't know. If muschamps heart is in it, he can. I suspect he really isn't that into being a DC. We'll see. We need someone with fire and hunger.

I made a similar comment last night. We are full of drama queen players that we don't want to offend because they are all we have. We need some kids that can grind the shite out and work their arse off and we seem to take shits on those kids. We have a list of kids that have turned into first and second day draft picks that we have shite on of late and I feel like Davis Jr will be added to it.

You would think we would at least keep him on the list until we had other plans in place but we shite on a legacy that wanted to be here (aka would do some work to make us better) for no one on the horizon.

i'm honestly not sure he was super sized about being a head coach when he was one. If he can get a great check for being a DC, I think he will hang out for a few more years to get his footing back.

You casty, but it takes a frickton of effort to change culture in a program and a couple years of bad games and cutting cancer players. Muschamp is capable, just don't know if he's up to it.

And frankly, the fact we're talking about muschamp instead of Gus is a gigantic indictment on Gus. Culture starts at the top.

If anyone looks at this in an unbiased mode they have to acknowledge this. When did our defense start down this track? It started when we put this type of offensive scheme in. Does running this type of scheme affect the defense? Or is it recruiting, player evaluation and/ or player development on defense. We have had some good defensive coordinators that have been successful in other places but they have failed at Auburn. Even Chizik has a good defense this year at NC. I cannot wrap my mind around this, it is baffling. I don't know the answer.
I do know this, if we go 5-7 this year and have another bad year next year will Muschamp have enough time to change the culture? I don't think so, if Gus has a bad year next year after this one I can see a house cleaning coming. Can the culture be changed without a change at the top? Will Gus go after a juco quarterback that can run and start him next
year or will he stick with White? I think if we go 5-7 Gus will panick and go after a juco quarterback to try and right the ship. Interesting questions.

We don't have a big enough sample size of Muschamp coaching with Gus to make such gigantic inferences.

I think a lot of it stems from our recruiting bias leaning so much towards the offense. If we take 25 players each year, 8 to 10 of them might be defensive and 4 of those are corners. We have short changed ourselves badly recruiting the defense If you run a 4-3 defense, every single year you should take 2 ends, 2 tackles and 3 linebackers at the least. you should really recruit a defense each year unless you have holes to fill and then you add on that, not take from another area.

in theory, you should be able to take 23 kids each season and have tons of depth at each spot including kicker. but we have been taking 25 to 28 kids and 18 are on offense. The kids we do take on defense seem to be project players that other schools that could take them, pass on.

NC runs similar offense to ours. Our problem is we have shitty seniors on D that don't give a frick. When you watch our D the players that Muschamp brought in give the most effort along with the underclassmen. More often than not the people getting out of position or screwing up are Seniors or Juniors.

I agree but NC's defense was god awful last year. They have shown marked improvement this year. Our defense has not. I agree with you about the players that we have.
