We all know 99% of the worst to first flip on Auburn is because punch drunk Gus has stepped back from play calling but...

....some of the credit has to go to the insertion of D James as LT and Golson going back to Center, right?

Yes. This is what I said in the other thread

quote:

Keeping Golson back to Center is genius. There was no drop off at center. But Golson can't play tackle. While James is not perfect at LT. He is a very large man that can move anyone out of the way.

Braden Smith looks like a TE compared to James.

Yes. Also, Cox has cleaned up his technique and is playing much better.

Cox had a nice block around left end on the Eli Stove speed sweep that went for a score.

Cox's blocking is lightyears ahead of where it was at the beginning of the season.

I would say the improvement has more to do with oline play than play calling.

It is both. Playing better players anyways help.

But we quit trotting that awful walk-on kicker out there and started playing the fast freshmen. We played Kam Pettway unlike in the first game.

Agreed, RL is calling the exact same plays that Gus was calling. The difference is the Oline is blocking and now we are in 2nd and 3 instead of 2nd and 11. Gus' is weakness is loyalty to older players. Play the best players...no matter who they are and what position they play.

Man....I don't know how to break it to you without sounding like a certain Presidential Candidate but "Wrong!"

Don't you remember the 5 QB performance against Clemson? The Cox 4 Horsemen pirourrette? The 15 whirly birds per game? Seriously, our offense is completely revamped. Lashlee realized that our opponents had figured out our tendencies and he's mixed it up.

Online helping but 99% of difference is Gus not outsmarting himself as OC.

I agree that Cox wasn't playing well at first. But, in his defense, even Jay Prosch didn't play well his first year on The Plains (2012, the year that NEVER HAPPENED).

Rhett does call some of the same plays as Gus, however, he does a much better job in calling plays that setup other plays later in the series. I.E it doesn't seem like Rhett calls cute plays to be cute.

Prosch even sucked to start the Malzahn era too. Tate had an entire "Camera Eye" segment dedicated to Prosch whiffing on blocks in space

It took him about 4-5 games to figure out how to block for Malzahn. When he did,

This is the biggest difference. The cute plays that get us behind the sticks on first down were drive killers and gave the other team the ball and momentum.

Cox got a Herb Hand job on his blocking technique.

That's the biggest change. The announcers would look at the formation and know exactly what they were about to run. I'm pretty sure the D coordinators and players did too. That's why the jet sweep was a touchdown on the first play, breaking tendencies.
