The Flushed closed my first year at Auburn. Think I went there once before it was torn down.

I really don't remember this BBQ place. I'm sure I went there if its where y'all say it is. I was so poor when I was there that I didn't eat out much.

Harrys, Darvos, the Flush, the copper kettle, hungry hunter, etc. Olden school. Back when the drankin age was 18. That was before we fricked it up for you kids and it changed to 21.

The age in Alabama was 19, in Georgia it was 18... You are correct, local businesses come and go. Miss Harrys the most.

I remember it now. I didn't go there much as I lived over by Momma G's. We did hit the all you could eat pizza buffet at the place not far from there.

It's been 20 years since I graduated from Auburn. There's not much left that's recognizable.

Nihon needed to go. It was a shell of its former glory.

Nihon is the standard by which all fried rice and chicken places are judged.

No, it is just ok. Go to Chuck's in Opelika

I worked at Chuck's in Auburn for a couple of years. I thought it was the best, but of course I am biased.

Anybody been to Country's in Opelika? Average BBQ, but they used to do a good job picking the waitresses

I've lived in Auburn since I graduated in the late 90's. Most of my local favorites are now gone. Strutting Duck. Buffalos. Buffalo connection. The Flush. After the OG location closed I still hit it up when it moved to Dean, that little to-go place in front of Winn Dixie, and finally off of Donahue. China King where Hamilton's is at you could get a giant portion of the best shrimp fried rice this side of the Yangtze river for just $3-4. As a poor college student I would make two meals out of that. I remember 8 of us running up $1.27 tab on Penny Wells night at Fink's. Quarter mug night at Finks we would get there early so we could get an actual glass mug to drink out of instead of a plastic cup. I still have a Harry's "Where the Elite Meet" shirt. Times they are a changing.

I started at AU in the fall of 1994. So much has changed since then it isn't funny, and while the school has grown and made a lot of improvements, I agree that with a lot of the mom and pop style business closing and corporate types moving in, it does change the feel.

I miss TigerTime diner and then the location they opened in Gabby's over on College at the RR tracks.

I was heartbroken when Irelands closed so they could expand Blue Room/Neons/Ultrabox/Fifth Quarter/Skybar.

I remember ordering a medium pizza and a dozen buffalo wings from Brand X Pizza. Now the fact that Chick-fil-a moved in where Milo's was is an upgrade.

What was the pool hall in downtown, somewhere in the strip of businesses between Toomer's and Cheeburger Cheeburger? I want to say it was called Tiger Rec.

I just hope Little Italy stays downtown because that is some of the best pizza around. Live in Bham and still favor Little Italy easily over anything here.

Auburn is quickly losing its small town college character.

Same here. It is legit good. As much business as they do, they shouldn't have any problem with it though. I really wish they would bring one here. I was so excited when a "Little Italy" was opening in 5pts, only to find out it was completely unaffiliated with the Auburn one.

Yep. The city council wants it to be more metropolitan, but don't seem to understand that it isn't designed to be that way. It should be more like Oxford if they are trying to emulate a city.
