Obviously, Clemson is favored over AU in this opening game. However, I feel like too many people are pointing at their game against Alabama as the reason. They had several extremely close games against average teams during the regular season (SC anyone?). With decent quarterback play, I think AU has more than a fighting chance. Am I being a posi-barner, or does anyone else think this as well?

Just grab your ankles and think happy thoughts. Win or lose my blood alcohol will be at a level that will make driving an impossibility.

All depends. Do we see an offense more similar to 2015 or 2013 and 2014? If we come out and play to the best of our player's abilities then it'll be a good ballgame. If not then strap in and brace for impact.

Nobody knows

They were held under 25 pts 3 times last year so it is definitely possible to slow them down some. However, I don't trust our defense yet to do that so I think it comes down to how well does our offense bounce back. If they can put up 28+ pts we have a shot.

I actually feel better about this game coming first. Both teams will be rusty so hopefully they won't be executing perfectly to start the season like they were end of last year. I think defensively it will come down to can we get pressure with front 4. If we don't have to send a 5th guy that lets us contain Watson easier.

Personally I don't think the game is as hopeless as others. Not that I am predicting us to win I just don't think we are as far away from being dangerous as others seem to think. Been rewatching our games from last season & #1 thing that got in our way on offense was ourselves. It's a big if, but if we can fix our execution & get back to running with a bit of pace I think we will be a tough out. If we repeat last year's mistakes then yeah I think AA7's post is appropriate

No offense will typically be clicking on all cylinders in game 1 of the season. Obviously they have NFL skill players at least 2 deep at every position there, so we'll have to be very cautious with that. However, I don't feel that CU's OL is anything special. Depending on the gameplan CU has offensively, I think that our DL should be able to cause problems bringing only 4 and the occasional 5th man, which obviously gives us 6-7 defenders to play the pass. The key will be the DEs containing the edges WHILE the DTs get some push up the gut and LBs fill the gaps between the tackles.

Won't be easy, but Tre and TJ Neal are both football smart and should be used to seeing a lot of "eye candy" in practice but staying disciplined.

Two words.

Food. Poisoning.

Thats what we need to do to Dashaun Watson before the game. Dude needs to be tied to the shitter for us to win.

Auburn and Clemson had two common opponents last year, with similar outcomes (granted, the venues were very different).

They're better than us, obviously... but I think we can hang.

player for player, we can hang. They obviously have an advantage at the most important position. But I believe we have a pretty big advantage at the other(s) (those being the lines of scrimmage). I think we're much better and deeper than they will be at the LOS.

Jordan-Hare at night. Our Defense is improved. I give us a chance, but I also understand why Clemson is favored.

I give us a chance to win. I give us a better chance to not get embarrassed and lose a close one. Assuming the coaches do their job and the players are prepared we look good on paper. There is a lot that has to go right for us to win. I would feel much better if this were game 2 of the season.

Yeah that's the dumbest reasoning ever.
I think we have a shot, especially 1st game, at home, at night. It's not like Clemson's program is light years ahead of us. Aside from QB, we've recruited just as well as them.

I'd be shocked if we get blown-out in that one.

I agree with this, except for saying "they're better than us... obviously"

Maybe they are and maybe i'm just too much of a homer to admit it, but this isn't last year. New year, new teams. If we can find some confidence in the first half, I have no problem believing we kick arse the rest of the game.

Edit: Carl is FINNA EAT

Their biggest advantage is a powerful offense returning to the field nearly intact from an impressive season in 2015. They are already fire tested and working on gaps from last year. Knowing we have some solid returners on defense helps negate some of that, but having a new DC and an unknown offense is scary. I know the team will play like there is no tomorrow, but even JHS at night and fire in the belly will only be enough to win if fundamentals keep it close.

Obviously Clemson has the edge at QB but let's take a look at the rest:

QB- CU, duh.
RB- Push, MAYBE edge to AU. Jovon is more talented than Gallman but that dude is really good and graded very high last yr.
WR- hahahahahahaha...CU
TE- CU
OT- CU. two 5* OTs, both sophomores. We have more experience with Leff/Golson in games but I'll go CU here.
OG- Auburn by a lot.
C- CU. Guillermo is all ACC and solid.

Obvious edge to Clemson here on offense.

DE- Auburn big. Lawson, Davidson, Holland, Cowart, PJ, etc. AU is better and deeper. I like Bryant at DE for CU but not a huge fan behind him.

DT- Push or AU. Wilkins and Watkins are super talented but so are Monty and Russell or Lawrence or Brown or Jackson or Swain or any of the other DTs. Our depth is where I'd to go AU. The starters are a push.

LB- push. Boulware is the typical white LB but he's actually very good. I think TJ Neal is about as good as this kid. Tre Williams is more talented than both but the sample size isn't there for Tre.

S- Auburn. Ford, Tray Matthews and Ruffin or Roberts are all 3 better (assuming Tray is actually healthy and in shape) than any 1 safety CU has). Both projected starters have never been starters for CU.

CB- AU or push. I think Carlton Davis is better than their #1 in Tankersley. Behind that it's a crap shoot for both but we have recruited some solid talent back here.

Auburn is quite a bit more talented than CU on this side. Possibly as big of a talent gap on D as CU has over Auburn on the O.

I think I would lean push & maybe a bit towards Clemson on this one. I think our upside is higher but I feel like their group has produced more than ours

Other than that agree with most of your ratings. The weapons they have at WR are insane. 5*s everywhere then a token white boy walk on

They were in the NC and return their QB who will be the Heisman favorite, while we were in the Birmingham Bowl. "They're better than us" is a pretty simple conclusion to come to.
