It would have to be Tubs. I miss playing great defense and of course, the streak. Not to mention 2004 was probably the best all-around team we've ever had.

Without a doubt. Also not a coincidence that bama sucked arse as a program during his run. His 04-06 run is probably the best 3 year run in our history. I will say this about Tubby : While we were always going to lay an egg once or twice a year, he kicked arse in big games. I miss those days.

Auburn has never been a very consistent 10 win program and I don't think it will ever be. We will have national title contending teams every 5 years or so. I'd rather have our history over the last 6 years than UGA's.

I was in school during Tubs era. I liked him, but he could never put a complete year together. I'll always be thankful to Chizik for 2010, and Malzahn for 2013. The 2006 Arkansas game is perfect example of Tubs.

That might have had to something to do with Bama being coached by Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula at the time.

But, yes, Tubs was a solid coach. Bama was a hot mess while he was head coach at Auburn, but I enjoyed dominating them nonetheless.

I think everyone would agree it was Tubs. Yes, Chizik and Malzahn have brought 2 SECCs and a national title and another appearance, but as far as consistency it was Tubs.

For me the thing I want is for AU to be able to compete in every game. I want to go into every game feeling like we have a shot and Tubs gave us that.

That's why the start to this season has been so depressing. After the Jax State game I didn't feel excited for the rest of the season. I wanted to believe we could pull the upset at LSU, but I just couldn't bring myself to it. I agree with what someone else said in another thread about finally being excited again after White was announced as starter.

Tubs without a doubt. I hate what happened in his personal life, but the guy still loves Auburn. True Auburn man.

Tubs started out the 2003 season ranked 6th in the nation with a crap ton of talent too.

If Terry Bowdon gave a crap about recruiting, it would have been him. Of course, the same could have been said for Tubs. Everyone knew Auburn was a sleeping giant when it came to recruiting. There is no way a coach should ever have a recruiting class outside of the top 15 while at Auburn.

Gotta agree with tubs. You know one of my favorite moments in Auburn was in 2001 when we beat Florida at home. Chaos in the streets.

He was the best coach I've seen getting his teams ready to go against the top 10. His team always had a chance.

But would drive me crazy by not having the team ready for someone we should beat easily. Tubs is the answer, but damn he frustrated me sometimes.

Agree. The Tony Franklin fiasco killed whatever chance he had of surviving, though.

What if he had lured Malzahn away from Arky instead of hiring that nutcase?

The PTB at Auburn in 2007 wanted to go to a spread offense and Tubs wanted to stick with a more prostyle offense. They essentially told him to hire Franklin. Add in the fact that none of the BBQ gang liked Franklin, and it was an offensive disaster. Completely different personalities and philosophies. That's why they hired Chizik to be a yes man and bring in Malzahn.

We didn't win the title that year because of his failure that was 2003.

2003 USC, LSU and UGa, 2008 Bama games were over by halftime.

Others have mentioned his frequent fails where he brought teams in totally unprepared against opponents that appeared overmatched, often with disastrous results. And he was a lazy recruiter, and floated his name for far too many other jobs, even if only as a bargaining ploy.

And he clearly lost his conpetetive fire in 07-08.
