This best defense we've had since Tubs? Go.

And I don't think this as far fetched as we think since we haven't had a "really" good defense since Tubs. Sure 2010 was pretty good but they just came up big at the right time and same with 2013. Both pretty good but not great.

That I did. Not very good. I just keep hearing about how good this defense is going to be and how much depth and talent we'll have on the DL.

refer back to a year ago, about this time, two weeks before season...JJ was a heisman candidate, AU was a cinch to make the playoffs...juggernaut in the making, right?

is coach doublebubble still head football coach at AU?....is his illegitimate son still OC?....did a kevin steele coached defense give up 70 points to WVA?.... was > LSU HAPPY TO SEE HIM GO? <....don't set yourself up to be disappointed....until malzahn is relieved of his duties, AU football will be like the movie "groundhog day"

I hope it is. To answer your question, i guess it is possible. However, that hinges on an offense that can move the ball (keep defense off field) and no injuries to lawson

I'll go with 2010 because we played well enough to get to the ship.

Truth is there has not been defenses like what Tubs had. I think part of that is due to the fast pace spread that has overtaken football.

Seriously, can we stop with this argument? I don't care about the 2012 Orange Bowl. W Va scored 5 times in the 2nd quarter. There was a 99-yard TD off a fumble recovery (offense) and Tajh Boyd threw a pick and lost a fumble that led to two more W Va TDs.

In 2010 our defense was among the best in the country in terms of red zone defense and the ability to make adjustments and completely shut down opposing offenses in the second half.

2016 defense has to prove that they can respond to adversity and dominate when they have to. They need to lock down the red zone and instill doubt in opposing Qbs with constant pressure. They have to play physical and tackle with an intensity that causes hesitancy in opposing skill players. They have to limit big plays and win 65% of third downs. If they can accomplish that with minimum break downs, then we will win the vast majority of games we play, regardless of who our Qb is.

I won't ever believe Auburn has a defense until I see one.

Our defense no matter the talent always seems to underachieve. Always. Something always goes wrong

I should edit this and say since I've been alive cause I'm only 21.

I'm 23. You were old enough to remember some damn good defenses.

I might be crazy but I don't think we will be that much better than last year on D. A bunch of it will have to do with how shitty I think we will be on Offense.

Did you?

Outside of the LSU game, the defense was solid... It's reasonable to think they can approve on that, considering the talent on the DL and DB. Lawson and Carlton Davis have first round potential... and there's a bunch of experienced guys like devaroe lawrence, dee ford, tre williams, etc. we have issues (#2 corner, LB depth) but the overall talent is there to improve on what was started last year.

That's because a lot of people are star gazers who have no idea what they are talking about.

And the 2010 defense was #1 in the SEC against the run and #10 in the nation. If we are in the top half of an positive defensive category in the SEC, I'll self ban for a month.

Nearly every advanced statistics defense ranking has them as a top 10 defense

This year won't be a top 10 defense unless everyone lives up to the hype and more

On paper, it is easily the best. On the field who knows? That's why we play the game. Ask me in November.
