LINKY- they're becoming strict
I've seen this strategy tried at almost every other SEC school and it winds up with empty seats in the student section. Bold move, Cotton.

I don't even understand the logic here.

The objective is to eliminate the 2nd hand market by any means necessary. There is no logic behind it. You'd think Auburn would've learned from UGA and Tennessee's flawed student ticket approach but nah

I understand what they're shooting for, but this isn't it. Do you want old people/non students in the student section or hundreds of empty seats?

That really is a terrible plan. I understand not wanting a secondary market and doing something to reduce people just buying seasons for the sole purpose of reselling, but there's not reason to ID check everyone coming in to make sure they didn't get a ticket for a friend to visit. Plus it seems like that will make the lines take much longer to get through for big games when people are already arriving 4 hours ahead of kickoff.
Things like this, among many other reasons mind you, are why I've never been to an away game or an Iron Bowl across the state. Its a damn act of congress to get in the door and it really takes a lot of the fun out of it and perpetuates the culture that you need to know someone to even go to a game.

You're right and there's no feasible way to achieve what they're shooting for but hey at least they tried

I think this is partially in response to the Bama fans causing trouble in the student section last year (most were well behaved). Also, a lot of folks order tickets with zero intent on going to the game. Still will suck for folks who date people from other schools.

Doubt it had anything to do with Bama fans. Albeit, nice try to rope them into the problem.
Since I'm Asian I'll go ahead and say it - It's because Asian folks are grabbing up the season tickets and selling them right away Just go to the Auburn ticket exchange Facebook page in August and you'll be shocked

So true, though. I stereotype like a motherfricker when the semester starts... "oh, barely any English? You must have tickets".

The stupidest part is the rule on losing purchasing rights after transfers >4 games. When UGA plus Bama = 100/each give or take some, you still profit a good bit
Also, frick them for going out of their way to screw the international students. That is clearly the primary target on this one

Student section sounds like a safe space.

What? I'm totally against the policy but I'm all for them screwing the international students who have no idea what football is yet make a pretty good profit on the tickets.

They should have done something to correlate however many Ignited Points you have on your Ignited Card and ordering season football tickets.

frick that. Just leave it how it was. The only people who weren't getting tickets were freshmen (unless somethings changed in the last year or two). While I don't like people making a profit from it, it's not a big enough deal to make it such a hassle for everybody else.

Yep, break it off into tiers based off of your previous years ignited points.

So you'd be okay with it if they knew more about football but still sold their tickets? There isn't justification for why reselling tickets is wrong, even if you don't know about football.
As far as the policy goes though, SGA is stupid in there is a good chance even less freshmen get tickets, ticket resell will be even higher on average + Attendance will drop
Explanation
Less FR get tickets: The attempt at limiting resell is intended to decrease the demand for student tickets, assuming the "Intl Students" won't buy them.
What is ignored is that Student tickets are subsidized to be A) Cheap B) Bargain
While at this point in time, Utility ($300 profit) > Utility(Attending Game) for international students, it is yet to be determined if Utility(Ateending Game) < Utility($ for subsidized tickets)
Essentially, the tickets are made so cheap to students that a number of students would prefer game over nothing, but not game over profit.
ticket resell will be even higher on average:
Less tickets to be resold, with potentially negligible effects on demand will drive up the cost. Freshmen essentially won't go to the Iron Bowl
Attendance will drop
People won't be able to sell their ticket/willing to accept the transaction costs to gift said ticket, so tickets will go unused
