Some of my thoughts after watching...

- Roc looked the worst from the RB spot. He was indecisive in finding the hole and getting upfield.

- Golson needs to really work on his timing with the man in motion (Louis mostly). Sometimes Louis had to come to a complete stop to allow the snap to pass him.

- The OL for the most part looked pretty good. The penalties were drive killers and/or worse.

- JJ throws the quick slants and out routes towards the sidelines extremely well. He throws the ball with accuracy and with zip on those passes.

- Two INTs came after the offense got put in a 3rd in long because of a holding penalty (one which wiped away a 50+ yard TD, the other which converted a 3rd and short).

- Auburn ran pretty much on all running downs and passed on all passing downs. Not much creativity.

- I'm convinced we haven't been running zone-read plays all that much. I'm also convinced that Gus/Lashlee are giving JJ predetermined reads sometimes instead of letting him go through his progressions. The second INT looked like only two WRs ran routes.

- JJ needs to settle down when he feels pressure. He sails them once a defender gets close to him. He also doesn't step into his throws which messes with his accuracy.

- Both HBacks were inconsistent on getting good blocks.

Overall a few mental mistakes really made the game closer than it should have been. Two holding calls could have added another 14 points for the offense and taken away two INTs.

I won't be watching the JSU tape...

Do it. Embrace the film and tell us what it says about the team

I don't know how athletic the JSU WRs were but I was floored that we started dropping into zone ten yards from the LOS on first down. Why are we conceding anything to freaking JSU of all teams with that kind of cushion? We should be more athletic than them at every position.

Vanilla game plan with TFR DBs playing a lot of snaps. Seemed like Muschamp didnt want those guys giving up big plays.

I hate that plan. Instead we'll let them completely neutralize our DLine by giving them quick slants and bubble screens for 8 yards a pop for 4 quarters.

We take away opportunity from the strength of our defense and let teams expose our weakest area. How dumb is that?!

I mean, its really not that dumb when trying to build depth in the secondary with TFR. Early game in the year against a team that we should have crushed and didnt mostly because of the offensive struggles.

1st half offensive drives...
5 plays - punt
15 plays - FG
10 plays - FG
4 plays - INT
3 plays - punt

The biggest concern you have for young players in the D is missed assignments leading to busted plays. Muschamp put those guys in for a lot of time getting valuable game reps in high percentage defensive plays.

Muschamp was always bend but don't break at Auburn, so the cushion didn't surprise me. Again, only referring to his time at Auburn, the DBs were never above average under Muschamp. I thought Paul Rhodes was much better.

Good breakdown. No more JJ passes over the middle.

Auburn finished 19th and 6th in the country in total defense under Muschamp in 2006 & 2007.

Eric Brock, Pat Lee, Powers, Jonathon Wilhite, & David Irons were only average to you? Everyone of those guys made a NFL squad.

Pass D
2007 - 6th in the country - 173 ypg, 11 TDs, 14 INTs
2008 - 19th in the country - 178 ypg, 19 TDs, 11 INTs

THIS

I rewatched the game the other night. When Countess leaves game we basically surrender the short routes to protect our DBs from getting beat deep. It worked as JSU drove the field all the time but only got 2 TDs. One series Russell, Lawson, Garrett, McKinzy, Countess, Holsey & Matthews are all of the field. When that happens you go to your base stuff and ask your guys to not give up the home run.

I think we see more of that man press & aggressive blitzing we did against UL before Jackson went wild on us

Good break down joey.

Tomorrow will be more plays and up tempo, read option, and we will look completely different. Enjoy the game fella's you're going to be asking to get on the posibus.

I hope so. I'm changing my game day routine tomorrow, so we will see what happens. I'm really hoping they don't return the favor from last year
