AU NFL Roundup

quote:

Newton got his first victory over the Seahawks after four losses, including a setback in last season's playoffs.

quote:

Newton was among the 13 former Auburn players who got on the field on the sixth Sunday of the NFL's 2015 season.

quote:

Bynes was lauded for his locker-room address after the Lions fell to 0-5 with a lopsided loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week. Detroit earned its first victory of the season on Sunday, beating Chicago 37-34 in overtime. Bynes contributed 11 tackles, including one on special teams, had two tackles for loss and knocked down a pass.

quote:

Other former Auburn players seeing action on Sunday included Lions defensive tackle Gabe Wright, Houston Texans fullback Jay Prosch, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Corey Grant and defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks, Chiefs outside linebacker Dee Ford, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates and Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Angelo Blackson.

Marks saw his first action of the 2015 season in the Jaguars' 31-20 loss to Houston. Marks suffered a knee injury in the final game of the 2014 regular season and had surgery in the offseason. Grant carried the ball once for 1 yard in the game for Jacksonville.

quote:

Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Pat Sims and tight end C.J. Uzomah, Jaguars cornerback Nick Marshall, San Diego Chargers offensive tackle King Dunlap and San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Corey Lemonier were designated as inactive. Dunlap missed his second straight game since sustaining a concussion.

Seems like every other day the sports radio folks (Atlanta 680 the Fan) are bringing up Robenson Therezie's name in a positive way.

Unfortunately, it looks like Ricardo Allen has recovered and Therezie will move back to back up, but it's still a great story.

Good for Reese.

The back-up who makes the game-winning play... an even BETTER story.

AUBURN LEADS THE WAY WITH 14 NFL ROOKIES THIS SEASON

quote:

You know you've placed a lot of rookies in the NFL when one of your guys replaces another one of your guys as a kick returner.

That's what happened for Auburn coach Gus Malzahn last week when Nick Marshall stepped in to replace the injured Corey Grant as the kick returner for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Auburn has 14 rookies, the most of any big-time school, spread across NFL rosters this season.

"I think that says our guys can move on to the next level and be successful," Malzahn said. "I'm happy that from last year's group so many of those guys have made it."

The 14 players are on active, injured or reserve NFL rosters. In all, 31 former Auburn players are in the NFL including Cam Newton, who's among the early leaders to be named the MVP.

Malzahn said the newest group to make is a plus for Auburn.

"Those guys were big factors in us making the national championship game, and helped us win a lot of games," Malzahn said. "It shows you can be developed here, go to the next level and be successful.

"When we first got here there were only a couple of guys who made it. The goal of ours was to get this thing back where it should be as far as getting guys to the next level. We're very excited about that as a program."

Receiver Quan Bray made a move this week when Indianapolis promoted him from the practice squad to the active roster.

Marshall, a quarterback for Malzahn the previous two seasons, is a defensive back for the Jaguars. But he jumped in to return kickoffs last week, returning his only chance 19 yards. He replaced Grant, his old backfield mate at Auburn, who is now out for the season with a hip flexor injury. Grant averaged 27½ yards on his eight kickoff returns.

Grant's move to the injured reserve still leaves Auburn with nine active rookies, tied for the most of any FBS school.

Here's a list of NFL rookies who were at Auburn last season:

Brandon King, DB, New England Active
C.J. Uzomah, TE, Cincinnati Active
Sammie Coates, WR, Pittsburgh Active
Quan Bray, WR, Indianapolis Active

Rumor flying that Cam might be getting Megatron to throw to.

Well their WR corp is not good. This would be good for the Panthers. Their TE is leading in receptions and receiving yards, even though he is really good.

Would be a nice addition, but megatron isn't the same receiver he used to be. Maybe a change in scenery will be good for him.

Cam's WRs right now are Tedd Ginn Jr and Jericho Cotchery. One guy drops the ball so much he has been cut by two other teams, the other hasn't had >800yds since 2009.

Megatron with an amputated arm would be better than what Cam currently has

Oh I'm not arguing that he's not better than everyone they have right now, I'm just saying he's not the same WR he was a couple years ago.

With Cam throwing the ball, Megatron would still have 2-3 years of 1,000+ yards and 70 catches.

Cam basically throws so hard the ball gets lodged into his receiver's soul. Ted Ginn just doesn't have the chest to handle that heat, Megatron does

I agree and think it would be a good fit considering Cam often misses high. Megatron and Benjamin would be a good combination whenever he returns.

I like Benjamin, I just wished the Panthers had a surehanded WR to go along with him.

Benjamin had like a ~15% drop rate. Panthers already have Tedd "Bricks for Hands" Ginn

It's not a real rumor. It was just mentioned in ESPN's 5 trades that should happen (but won't) article yesterday.

Unless the Lions paid his entire contract this season, I don't even think it is possible for Megatron to go to the Panthers. He is owed $12mil base and the Panthers only have $4mil in space

I'd personally target Watkins from the Bills. He hates being a part of that franchise

Benjamin only caught half the balls thrown at him last year. I don't know what the drop rate was, but that's unacceptable.
