From ESPN Jacksonville beat reporter Mike DiRocco...

https://espn.go.com/blog/jacksonville-jaguars/post/_/id/13825/jaguars-continue-to-be-impressed-by-former-auburn-qb-nick-marshall

quote:

Marshall faced an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster when he arrived but he’s been so impressive during camp that it now seems he’s likely to make it. The top three corner spots are pretty much a lock -- Demetrius McCray, Aaron Colvin and Davon House -- but Marshall is legitimately in the mix for the final two or three spots along with Dwayne Gratz, Peyton Thompson, Rashaad Reynolds, Tommie Campbell and Jeremy Harris.

Even if he’s not ready to contribute right away it may be in the Jaguars’ best interest to keep him over more experienced players. For the Jaguars to sign him to the practice squad they have to cut him and he must clear waivers, and if Marshall continues to improve it’s likely that another team would quickly claim him and the Jaguars would lose him.

The Jaguars knew Marshall was a physical fit for what they want in their corners -- bigger players with good speed -- and they’ve also found out he’s just as mentally tough despite his inexperience.

"The thing with him is it’s not too big," Bradley said. "He doesn’t care who he’s lining up against. You know me, a guy with that mindset, it’s awesome and he shows that day after day."

Great long read about Sammie. A lot of the info is taken from al.com articles and an SI article.

quote:

What nobody providing the coverage I was watching made any mention of, was the sort of character Coates had shown off the field …. and that was a shame. Sammie Coates is one of life’s special people. A person with the ability to see there is more to this world than just himself. In a sport that seems to be characterized by selfish egos and divas, especially at wide receiver, Coates has taken steps to be a better person…His perspective on life is that of a much older and wiser man and a level of compassion and understanding that is not often seen in a 22 year old man. Coates does not strike you as the sort of player likely to go whining to the press about lack of balls being thrown his way or sitting because of some minor injury. Despite being the clear number one among the Auburn wide receivers he demonstrated a team first mentality not often seen by players at his position… His personality and generous spirit can be nothing but a benefit to the locker room and if these characteristics can rub off on some of his new teammates, then so much the better. The scouts may question his hands but no one should question his heart. Regardless of how he develops as a professional football player Steeler fans should be happy to have a player of the character of Sammie Coates wearing the Black and Gold.

Based on stats looks like N Marshall had a kick return for 35 yards. Grant had a couple of kick returns for 21 yards and also one reception for 15. Only had 2 carries for 6 yards.

Therezie had an interception for the Falcons last night.

CAP was the best looking running back on the field for Carolina last night (but they didn't play their starter, Jonathan Stewart).

Cory had a nice 30+ yard run called back due to a penalty on their last scoring drive.

Kinda weird to think that Marshall at some point was guarding Coates...9 months ago they were carving up bama's defense together

Sammie (watch the video in the link)

From SB Nation
quote:

Sammie Coates had a phenomenal catch in Friday's game. Despite worries about his ability to concentrate, follow through on plays, and not drop the ball, Coates has delivered-- most of the time-- in the preseason.

quote:

Coates was also a bright spot in special teams coverage, performing competently as a gunner in coverage.
