I actually think it was the right call. The PTB/Board/whoever should support their head coach until they don't. My problem was with the way it unfolded, the time it took. We didn't need any fodder for al.com hit pieces this recruiting cycle.

Chip was probably Gus' first choice and I fully support the idea that Gus should get to pick his assistants, and needs to live and die by his decisions. I am not currently convinced that Gus is the coach for Auburn long-term, but maybe he will evolve

Agreed. It shouldn't have taken this long for Gus to get his guy. If they don't trust his decision making anymore (which I understand) then get rid of him but don't micromanage his staff. Glad he got who he wanted. Will be interesting to see it works out but I feel better knowing this isn't a guy that was forced on him

Just watched the presser.

The good

Gus says he's retiring from play calling and not even going to carry a clip board.

The bad

Chip says he isn't going to change what we do
Just going to add some new wrinkles

Hopefully the two styles mesh well and Gus doesn't meddle too much

how is this bad? literally we need a guy who can develop our quarterbacks and instill some more advanced routes in the passing game and we will have a top 15 offense again. not sure why that is tough to realize.

Yea not changing what we do doesn't mean we can't improve on it. We frankly don't have to change much. Add in some more complex route trees, less personnel specific plays, and just a little more balance.

We have some major issues to work out in pass protections. There is no reason a simple delayed blitz gets our qb murdered every single time. Gerogia, gumps, Oklahoma killed is with it.

We need to add plays that attack the middle off the field.

And we need to become more match up oriented. Running the same plays with different players is not a match up.
