Anyone else not notice that Lang didn't play at all?
I sit near the AU bench. I saw Lang a time or two stretching his hand or wrist like he had an issue with it.
I never heard PEarl explain why he did not play, but Pearl is very good at playing a lot of players, even if he wanted to give Purifoy and others more time. So it is hard to believe he would not put him in at all.
One last reason for not playing... could have been that Alabama as far as I could see played a LOT of man to man, and Lang is not very good with Man to Man.
He is a little too slow, and i noticed in offensive sets he has trouble getting open or when he IS open, it takes him too long to get his shot off.

Certainly doubtful that that run would have happened if Lang was getting big minutes. He plays with no emotion or heart. I also didn't notice he wasn't out there yesterday. Says a lot.

Good observations. Lang definitely has a spot as a proven shooter against zones. He may want more minutes elsewhere, but we can give him about 20 against zones.

I think we see Purifoy at the 3 for stretches next year
I was really hoping to see Purifoy be a more athletic, better shooting Tyler Harris this year.
Hopefully if he plays some 3 he can improve his driving/finishing

Not having Purifoy eligible last year has really hurt his development this year

Just watched Pearl's press conference from yesterday. He was asked about TJ Lang's lack of minutes and here's his reply (not word for word)
Well LSU and Alabama are two bigger teams and we got Danjel back today which really helped with that but when you've got to guard big guys on the inside it affects your rotations and that's hurt Lang's minutes.
He also alluded to Purifoy playing 29 minutes not in regard to Lang but that certainly takes minutes from Lang.

Such a cool moment for Keim and our other members of the caboose. Not all coaches would empty the bench there but I'm glad Bruce did that. Macoy, Keim, and Blackstock are all from the state so that game means as much or more to them than any other so I'm thrilled that happened. Memories for a lifetime
And it had been rumored that Keim was questioning coming back this past offseason but I'm glad he did. It's often lost in the shuffle but those guys mean a ton to the program

I think it is RoJo/Brown/Dunans improving in the offense that is reducing his minutes. Lang actually runs the offense which got him on the floor.
Purifoy took away Langs temporary minutes at the 4 during our weird lineup shuffle. It doesn't show his diminishing minutes at the 2/3 though

I'm glad Avery threw out a walkon. That's when Bruce called in all the walkons not just Keim.
Also huge props for Brown recognizing the situation. I saw him go from wanting to score, wanting to drain clock to wanting to hook Keim up

Brown looked really comfortable for most of the game. He changes the team in a big way when he's playing well.

That 3 from kleine was awesome. I love that picture

While Brown is def shooting better from 3PT in conf play (38.7% 3FG vs OOC 25.5%) it is the other parts of his game improving that have me more excited
- Brown has started to pass on bad shots + actually pass the ball (His FGA per possession went from team lead to roughly #4)
-Brown has an assist in 5 straight games. Compare the 7 assists in 5 games to 6 assists in the first 14 games
-Brown has been driving to the rim and shows potential despite mistakes
-Brown has been arguably our best on ball defender. He does foul a decent bit but guards cleary get frustrated by him

quote:Loved watching him on D against bama. He was suffocating and it was awesome to watch. The team as a whole picked up the defensice intensity in the second half to me.

Brown was easily our best on ball defender last year. I was really confused why he had a rough start this year defending in man
He is going to pick up BS fouls with that intensity but it is well worth the anxiety/pressure it puts on the ball handler

He had too much of a mindset of a spot up shooter after last year. When shots weren't falling, he kept missing, didn't focus on defense, and just stood around and kept the offense out of sync. Hope something has truly clicked.

I'd say his early success shooting 3s was just as damaging. He struggled early on 2PT FGA while finding great success from 3PT. Almost like he just decided to stick w/ what he's good at as pre injury 60% of his FGA were 3PT
Those early games were perfect opportunities to get experience & confidence while playing "lesser" opponents. Instead he decided to become a volume 3PT shooter

quote:He gets more dumbass hand check fouls than anyone and still can't learn his lesson. Also, he doesn't play with energy unless he is getting touches on the offensive side of the ball. If he can improve his shot selection and play smarter on defense, he could be a very good player with a consistent role on this team.
