This team has got worse if that is possible.

Tahj getting hurt was the death knell for this season. Reality is we are the least talented in the conference. We needed every thing to go right this year to even have a chance to be decent. Atewe's leg, Mason's ankle, Tahj's shoulders and Kenneth's fondness for the pipe were all things we couldn't afford to happen. Just way to many empty roster spots to compete for a full season. It's coming though. Next years team will look and play nothing like this years. I will be mildly shocked if we bring back more than 6 of our current players. I'm not saying we will dance next year because I don't think we will but we will finally be able to finally feel a little of that light we saw when Pearl was hired.

I believe our player's expectations for this season exceeded their actual ability and that's why we've seen a huge drop in effort lately. Once they truly grasped that there's nothing left to play for, they embraced the fact and quit.
I wish Antoine and Kenneth the best in the future but I'm not sad to see them go. I feel for KT because he's a homegrown kid that didn't accomplish anything other than individual accolades during his time. Malcolm has been a great rep for Auburn during his time as well.

It depends on how their grades are now and if they go on to graduate somewhere else. Atewe, Purchase and Thompson are all pretty bright so I doubt it would hurt that much if at all.

I think a major factor that will help next season is the fact none of these new kids will have ingrained in them the shittiness that has been Auburn basketball.
It'll be a fresh mentality, and players on the team already have this mindset. Canty, Bowers, and Reed all know how high the potential is here next season.

As long as all the other Scholarship players remain academically eligible at the end of the semester + land at some 4 year institution pursuing their degree, it has 0 effect on our APR.

If the student has over a 2.6 GPA and lands at a 4 year institution pursuing a degree, Auburn would receive 2/2 points for APR aka 1.000 for that player.
Has nothing to do with "graduation"

APR gives each player 2 possible points for APR. 1 pt for academically being eligible and 1 pt for retention/graduation.
The academics is obvious but to earn the retention/graduation point, your player must either A) return to your school the next term to pursue degree or B) Graduate from your school
When a player transfers you lose your "retention" point in APR as they are not pursuing a degree. The NCAA allows adjustments for transfers however for players that have 2.6+ GPAs which allows the school to get full APR since it wasn't their fault.
For example,
Atewe has a 3.0GPA and transfers to LaTech. He receives 1 point for completing eligibility requirements and Auburn loses 1pt for the transfer. Due to his high GPA however, Auburn applies and receives an adjustment so that Atewe gets 2 points and counts as a 1.000 APR
Thompson has a 2.5 GPA and transfers to South Alabama to enjoy his pipe. Thompson receives 1 pt for being academically eligible but loses 1pt for lack of retention. Due to his 2.5 GPA he is not eligible for an APR adjustment and counts as a 0.500 APR for the semester

Gracias. I was a little fuzzy on the graduation points. I appreciate the breakdown.

Of course
Not a ton of info out there and hard to break down specific scenarios too. Adjustments are the wildcard.
For example, Alex Thompson coming back will help our APR and I imagine is a major reason why he was allowed to come back. We qualify for a missed term adjustment under rule 14.4.3.5. It will improve our APR for spring 2014 since we lost his retention point initially

Yes, and as appropriate, Mason will be in New York with his family. He will not be playing in the game this evening.
I also learned from the al.com article Pearl gave him the option of leaving the team permanently to fully focus on his dad's deteriorating condition.

Tahj is getting his arm out of a sling from the 2nd surgery any day now and will start rehabbing. They did the more severely damaged shoulder 1st and everything has gone well. He probably won't be cleared to practice until Aug but all signs are pointing to a full recovery.

Trayvon starts his 15 day jail sentence today in Maryland. Maybe he'll come out tougher. Alex Thompson to Sanford
