Wiley scored 9 points and had 7 rebounds in Team USA's 82-60 exhibition win over France .

"We rebounded well," Team USA coach John Calipari said. "I think our big guys, (including) Wiley are playing well."

He had a real good game against Lithuania as well. I think like 15 or 16 points.

Exhibitions are over and the tournament is officially started in Cairo today.

The Americans smoked Iran 108-48 in their first game of the tournament Saturday. Wiley started and finished with five points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes. His plus-33 plus-minus rating was tied for second on the team.

Cbssports.com has Heron and Wiley as 1st rounders in their way too early 2018 Nick draft:
LINK

quote:

#20. Pacers

-Mustapha Heron, SG, Auburn

A big, strong, confident guard who plays with the certainty of an NBA vet. He can shoot it from deep and rebounds well for a guard.

quote:

#25. Jazz

-Austin Wiley, PF/C, Auburn

Two Auburn players in the first round? Two Auburn players in the first round. Wiley reminds me a bit of Bam Adebayo. No, he's not always the world's most graceful athlete, but Wiley can overwhelm people with his strength and motor. Both of his parents were high-level basketball players in college and internationally.

-Jon Rothstein, a CBB "insider" for CBS sports, called Harper the best returning PG in the SEC

LINK

quote:

Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein

Best returning PG in the SEC is Auburn's Jared Harper. League is much deeper than last year, but lost several quality floor generals.

Oh and just for fun here's a pic of Wiley rising a camel in front of one of the Great Pyramids

(Camel looks like he's struggling big time with Wiley's giant arse)

Honestly I have no idea what to expect. We should be a tournament team, but I'm worried because almost every single other team in the conference decided they all wanted to improve their basketball programs at the exact same time as Auburn. Selfish assholes can't let us have this . Seriously though, if this exact team was playing in the SEC of 2 years ago I would feel very confident about locking up a tournament bid. It'll be a struggle this season though.

I do think we will improve big time on defense. Having Wiley from the start, with game experience, a full off-season in the program, and a well conditioned body, by himself will do wonders in the paint.
Okeke is also known for his defense. Those two themselves will be huge on that side of the court.

If we can continue to score like we did last year + just be an average, non dumpster fire on defense like we were last we should be able to win a couple of those games we should have last season.
Depth will be a big upgrade.
Plus experience and chemistry should naturally work themselves out now that the team is older, which will cut down on all the careless mistakes we made last season, and help us to play and finish a full 40 minutes.

All those things combined, plus a weak OOC schedule, theoretically we should be close to 25 wins

And speaking of Final Four, let's play the completely worthless game of comparing two teams progression. Auburn and South Carolina up until a couple months ago more virtually mirrors of each other as far as historical success, Auburn having only a slight lead. Both programs were coming from virtually identical dumpster fires when they were able to hire big name proven coaches. Frank Martin is 2 years ahead of Pearl in the rebuilding process, but Pearl actually had a better year 3 at AU than Martin did at USCjr. So, I think it's safe to say that Auburn is a LOCK for the 2019 Final Four

Btw, don't feel like you need to read that whole novel I wrote all at once. Take it a chapter at a time if you want

We are about a half year ahead of Frank Martint so Ill settle for Elite 8 '18 Final 4 '19 since 4 is 1/2 from 8

It's July man. I ain't settling for shite in July. I'm thinking about cutting down the damn nets in July. That being said, when the season starts, I hope like hell we're in the big dance and can get out of the first round.

So Wiley avg a double double in group play w 10ppg 12.7rpg

The real concern I have is that he shot only 41% FG and 60% FT. That is garbage shooting efficiency considering his physically dominating offensive style

Wiley had an awful game. He was the only player who finished with a negative +/- and had 4 fouls in under 10 minutes

Wiley bounced back and once again lead the way for Team USA in a strong 81-59 win over Germany.

Wiley had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
He's averaging a double-double so far in the tournament, 10.2 ppg and 10.2 rpg

Here's Austin's highlights from the game:
