I'm sure you've all heard Grant is out. First I'll say it'd be fun if they hired a legit coach to really kick start some intense in state basketball competition.

Are there any of their recruits we might want to jump on? Even with next years class, we're still going to be a little small. IMO, it'd be nice to get another 6'-9"ish guy on the roster or taller.

It looks like they have Donta Hall...a 3* 6'-8" PF.

You mean the guy who has signed his LOI? I'm sure Alabama is just going to release him from his LOI so he can come to their instate rival

Do they have a choice? I thought he could bail since the coach is gone.

Nope. Can't bail unless released from LOI

Sort of like how we had to release Sam Logwood from his LOI

If the rule is the same as football, you can bail. Change of coach allows you to leave without penalty.

Wrong. Any recruit that has signed an NLI or scholly papers must be released from that NLI or scholly papers by the school otherwise he has to sit 2 years before playing NCAA D!, 2, or 3 ball unless he goes to juco and finishes his juco work in 1 year. If he is released he still has to sit 1 year barring a hardship waiver from the NCAA. See Mike Blakely This applies to Football and basketball. There is no auto release rule for when coaches leave in basketball. If there was many more kids would leave after a coaching change. As it is a number of kids transfer after a coach change but they accept the 1 year sit rule after release from NLI or scholly papers.

The only time a player can play immediately upon transfer w/out a waiver needed is when they already have an undergrad degree.

It's common practice for players to be released from their LOI when a coaching change is made.

I still don't understand the why but that was more of a we didn't want him than him asking for a release.

Exactly. It's so common the the other poster may not have realized it's a step in the process.
