Nor do I call the 'Miracle in Jordan Hare' a brilliant call, instead of it being Nick Marshall saying, ' F__'it I know better than you'

what? He ran the play that was called. It was 4th and forever so it was basically a Hail Mary. How is that Marshall saying "I know better"? In fact, he should've thrown to Sammie Coates who was wide open near the first down marker. But I'm guessing Coates was also saying "I know better than you Gus" by running the route he was supposed to run.

Nor in the same stretch do I consider the Kick-Six anyway attributable to his acumen as a coach;

How about being tied with the undefeated defeated national champions with one second left on the clock? I'm sure that had nothing to do with coaching.

Why can't y'all just give credit where credit is due and blame where blame is due? You can give a guy credit and still want him fired. It's not an all or nothing thing.

Even if you want to take the "fluke" plays away (which every championship team has by the way), you still have to be in a position in order for those fluke plays to mean anything.

Somehow CTT got drug into this discussion.

CTT 5-5 vs LSU 5-5 vs UGA 7-3 vs Bama 5-3 in bowl games
Gus 2-2 vs LSU 1-3 vs UGA 1-3 vs Bama 1-3 in bowl games

So much this. You can be critical of Malzahn without handwaving away his accomplishments. He's 0-6 against our top 2 rivals, he continues to stumble out the gates each season, he has an abysmal post season record and he seems to have lost his touch as a playcaller which was one of the big reasons he landed this job. All valid criticisms and reason to argue against Gus instead of "everything good that happens is an accident"

Both with 1 SEC championship....

The big difference between Tubs and Gus is Tubs had a tendency to go out and win a game no one thought we could. He would then turnaround and lose a game he had no business losing and tank our SEC championship hopes

Gus is the opposite. He pretty much wins the majority of games he should but rarely wins the ones he shouldn't

No doubt Tubbs was more competitive against our rivals. I have not seen anyone dispute that. It is a major concern right now.

But you have to exclude the Bama stat I believe. Things are a little different during those periods.

LINK

During the timeout Malzahn called a play he dubbed "Little Rock," something he had drawn up late in 1998 while coaching Shiloh Christian School in the Arkansas state playoffs. The play involved one receiver running deep on a post route while another would run a shallow dig route far enough to make the first down. Typically this play did not call for sophomore Ricardo Louis to be on the field but Malzahn said "Let's put Ricardo at five (the deep post route) and Sammie on the boundary (the shallow dig route)." The pass was designed to go to the shallow receiver, sophomore Sammie Coates, for a first down. But the planned deep receiver Louis begged quarterback Nick Marshall to throw him the ball instead. Louis dreamed of making a big play, inspired by the words of his receiver coach Dameyune Craig who frequently challenges his players with the question "What's going to be your legacy?".

Sammie Coates found himself wide open near midfield, but Nick Marshall stepped up to the 20-yard line and heaved the ball 47 yards downfield to Ricardo Louis in triple coverage. Coates dropped his head, too nervous to watch the outcome.

^^^ All of that on Wikipedia under prayer at Jordan hare? I had no idea. But I thought it had something to do with Nick changing the receiver, not the play.

I am in no way being negative towards the team or our players. I am just frustrated at how talented our team is and the fact that we've already given one game away with questionable offensive coaching. Just in my lifetime there have been some phenomenal seasons at AU. 1993 undefeated, 2004 undefeated, 2010 national champions, and 2013 oh so close. Maybe I am just spoiled and bitter that we had a chance to run the table, and Gus already gave away a winnable game to a great team. The two major excuses for Gus Malzahn's tenure have been no QB and no defense, we finally have both. I just want our coach to maximize the talent at his disposal and go win another championship.

All of the above.

But the one thingi wanted to add as a not a Gus fan anymore but give him credit where it's earned was in recruiting. Boom left and there was np DC and he still landed top defensive recruits. I'm shooting from memory though.

Sure you are. In almost every thread

We did not "Give" a game away. Clemson at home was a very difficult task. That is one very good defense and though I would have liked to see some different play calling, our players got their asses beat up front. That is not on Gus.

Right there with you. And probably longer

Still dont agree with this and i am not sure this team can "run the table". Love to think that but its not like its was a obvious reality

quote:

Agree here. Id like to see the same. And I believe he can do that. Loosing to Clemson did nothing to our season really. We win the SEC, we go to the playoffs, we dont win the SEC, we dont. Clemson does not play into that

Most people here, including myself, have the same concerns. But burning shite to the ground in every thread in every game will not make it better. Every play of every game is not going to go perfect. We are not going to get the right play call every time. There has to be some give and take to what is OK and what is stupid for play calling.

The flea flicker worked Saturday. Everyone thought it was great. Big play. If it missed, we would have had 10 pages of BS, Fire Gus, High School Offense, etc. No win situation.

What a great day that was whether you give Malzahn credit or not.

I think for me I have chosen to enjoy the victories and the efforts from the players. Many times I have and will be frustrated by Malzahn and assistants, but would be true under any coach. It's not like he is shitting the bed. A big indicator for me is have the players quit on him, and there had been no indication they did or have.

There are some valid points that have been made, but to pretend that many didn't overreact early is laughable regardless how we finish. Guess what, no way Gus was getting fired after Mercer. They made some changes to the OL and the play calling improved. Signs that Malzahn is at least making efforts to open up to change. I don't feel the need to call for Gus to be fired, but that doesn't mean I give him blind support. He at least looks to be aware he needs to evolve, might be stubborn or slow to do it, but signs are there that he is trying.

I'm going to enjoy the season and if his performance requires change then I support that. I don't mind the melts either they are entertaining. I also find it entertaining some of the newer posters don't like to be trolled a little. They crack me up how serious they take things here. Enjoy the season folks and WDE!!!

This right here. Realistically, I know I have seen more seasons than I have left.

This weekend was a good win. So was last weekend. If we cannot enjoy that, then why be fans?

If you always focus on the next thing, you will never really enjoy what is happening now.

Win or lose, new coach or same coach, I will enjoy watching the team play.

Fans don't have to pump sunshine all the time, but they also don't have to be doom and gloom all the time. So folks here seem so eaten up by what Alabama has been doing that they can find no joy in what has happened at AU during the same time.

I hope everyone has a great week.

That whole thing sounds like a bunch of bologna

But even if true that's not Nick saying "I know better than you Gus"
