I was listening online to the radio today and the hosts were talking to a guy who covers Louisville. While he did not offer a whole lot, I thought some football conversation might be nice.

Louisville had 10 guys picked in the NFL draft hurts most on defense in the secondary.

About Grantham as DC : said he is a good X’s and O’s coach but not a good recruiter.

Big question marks about how Louisville will match up against Auburn offensive talent.

The QB situation: they have about four guys with legitimate shot to be qb. He thinks Reggie Bonnafon will likely be the starter for the opener.

LINK

Athlon is predicting a let down year for Petrino.

quote:

Louisville lost three top receivers, so expect the Cards to run the ball early with Brandon Radcliff, who averaged 97 yards in the final three games against Notre Dame, Kentucky and Georgia

The offensive line also has to replace three starters.

quote:

Louisville has lost considerable talent and undergone a coaching staff change over the last two seasons. Those are warning signs the program could take a step back in 2015, especially with a schedule that includes Auburn and Clemson in two of the first three games. The Cardinals need a quarterback to emerge, receivers to step forward, three new offensive linemen to step up and a rebuilt secondary to deliver to keep winning big. That’s a lot to ask.

I have hated the thought of this game all off-season, if nothing else just because it's the first game of the year. This post made me feel a little better, but i'm still not chalking up the win just yet.

I don't see them stopping our offense, and without having named a QB yet, Muschamp should be able to give whoever it is fits.

Lord I hope so. If Louisville is really that down on the secondary, it could really help the confidence of Johnson if he lights them up mercilessly.

I am really hoping to see the Auburn defense come out with some real intensity, and with the Louisville qb situation, I really hope to see a lot of successful pass rushing and actually getting to the quarterback.

If we lose this game, expect a long season.

I like the idea of playing Louisville - playing a non-cupcake for the first game keeps players and coaches alike focused through Summer and Fall practice. Petrino is a damn good coach.

They might have lost a lot of talent defensively, but don't forget they had one of the best statistical defenses in the country last year, leading up to the FSU game at least. Not sure how they ended...

I've become accustomed to those every now and then. That's not to say I don't have high hopes, just trying not to get carried away :negatiger:

A good test early is probably for the best. I know anything can happen, but this is one, from the looks of it, we should win. Still, it is a game the players and staff will take very seriously (especially on such a big stage)

Like you said it is much better than playing some no name cupcake.

I will never understand why some teams front load all those non-competitive games, usually it just ends up with those teams getting exposed when they get punched in the mouth.

IMO if we can't beat Louisville nothing else will really matter this season.

If things go better than expected, then YAY (right?)!

If things don't, then you get the delicious, delicious task of telling all of your fellow fans how smart you are and how you knew it all along!

That was a dogfight but the circumstances surrounding that game were so much more in favor of KState.

yep. Here is the problem for most Auburn fans: It has been forever since we consistently dominated teams we should beat fairly easily. Even when we are really good, we are still always in close games, which means we are just that much closer to getting beat. A lot of that has to do with out defense being so bad. Not knocking Louisville, but if we are as good as we should be this year, we should win this game handily. Unfortunately, it is hard to be confident in our ability to shut teams down until we actually start doing it.

ETA: Who's downvoting this truth bomb? Say it to my face. Afraid of a little fisticuff action?

We should beat UL by at least two scores. But I'm not that confident. We will see.
