Time to turn attention to Auburn’s initial 2018 recruiting big board (247)
quote:

Top in-state targets with offers

Auburn bumped up its haul of in-state talent during the 2017 recruiting cycle. The Tigers signed 10 players from the state of Alabama on National Signing Day. Gus Malzahn emphasized the growing importance of securing the state’s borders as Alabama talent improves annually.

“Once again, the state of Alabama was a priority for us,” Malzahn said.

It will be again in 2018. Here are the top Alabama prospects who have Auburn offers and are seriously considering the Tigers:

3-star RB Tae Provens, Madison County (Gurley, Ala.)
Unranked RB Harold Joiner, Mountain Brook (Birmingham, Ala.)
4-star WR Justyn Ross, Central (Phenix City, Ala.)
4-star WR Seth Williams, Paul W. Bryant (Tuscaloosa, Ala.)
4-star OL Tank Jenkins, Park Crossing (Montgomery, Ala.)
3-star OT Kameron Stutts, Brooks School (Killen, Ala.)
3-star OLB Andres Fox, Mobile Christian (Ala.)
3-star DT Timaje Porter, Theodore (Ala.)
3-star DT Coynis Miller, Jackson-Olin (Birmingham, Ala.)
Unranked ATH Nathaniel Watson, Maplesville (Ala.)
4-star CB Jalyn Armour-Davis, St. Paul’s Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)
4-star SS Myles Mason, Pleasant Grove (Ala.)

Top out-of-state offensive targets with offers

With 10 Alabama signees, that means there were 13 prospects brought in from outside the state. Georgia and Florida are a hotbed for the Tigers, and that’s already proving to be the case in the 2018 class with the commitments of Gatewood and Shivers. Those aren’t the only out-of-state prospects on the offensive side who Auburn will be after in the upcoming recruiting cycle.

Here are the top offensive targets to keep an eye on. The Tigers have extended offers to all of these players:

5-star RB Lorenzo Lingard, University (Orange City, Fla.)
5-star OL Jamaree Salyer, Pace Academy (Atlanta)
4-star OL Christian Armstrong, Warner Robins (Ga.)
4-star WR Jacob Copeland, Pine Forest (Pensacola, Fla.)
4-star OL Deontrey Hill, Houston County (Warner Robins, Ga.)
4-star WR Matthew Hill, Brookwood (Snellville, Ga.)
4-star TE Tyneil Hopper, Roswell (Ga.)
4-star OL Jalil Irvin, Stephenson (Stone Mountain, Ga.)
4-star ATH Kearis Jackson, Peach County (Fort Valley, Ga.)
4-star WR Devonta Jason, Landry-Walker (New Orleans)
4-star WR Camron Johnson, Brentwood Academy (Tenn.)
4-star WR Joshua Moore, Yoakum (Texas)
4-star TE Mustapha Muhammad, Ridge City (Texas)
3-star ATH Richard Jibunor, Athens Christian (Ga.)
3-star TE Zach Sheffer, Nease (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.)
Unranked QB Gerry Bohanon, Earle (Ark.)
Unranked OL John Campbell, Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.)

Top out-of-state defensive targets with offers

And now for the defensive group, which is an impressive list. The Tigers grabbed out-of-state defensive players such as Chandler Wooten, Markaviest Bryant, Tyrone Truesdell and Traivon Leonard in the 2017 cycle. Look for more of that in 2018. At least that’s what Auburn will hope for.

Take a look at the top defensive targets who Auburn has already told it wants:

5-star CB Derrik Allen, Lassiter (Marietta, Ga.)
5-star DE Justin Mascoll, South Gwinnett (Snellville, Ga.)
5-star LB Teradja Mitchell, Bishop Sullivan (Virginia Beach, Va.)
4-star CB Al Blades, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
4-star DE Nik Bonitto, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
4-star DE Brenton Cox, Stockbridge (Atlanta)
4-star SS Joseph Foucha, McDonogh (New Orleans)
4-star DT D’Andre Litaker, Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.)
4-star LB JJ Peterson, Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.)
4-star SS Myles Sims, Westlake (Atlanta)
3-star LB Rocky Shelton, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
3-star CB Juanyeh Thomas, Niceville (Fla.)
3-star LB Quay Walker, Crisp County (Cordele, Ga.)
Unranked Channing Tindall, Spring Valley (Columbia, S.C.)

Offer-less prospects to watch

If a prospect is still without an offer, that’s nothing to worry about.

Many of the top prospects in the nation turn out to be guys who went relatively unnoticed until their junior-to-senior offseason. With those types of players, they’re often complete unknowns at this time in the cycle. They’ll become popular topics once offseason camps take off.

Some players without offers are just a matter of time. Below are a few prospects who Auburn communicates with, but for one reason or another, haven’t pulled the trigger on an offer yet. I expect that to change, so remember their names:

4-star RB Asa Martin, Austin (Decatur, Ala.)
4-star WR Lawrence Keys III, McDonogh 35 (New Orleans)
Unranked DE Jamarcus Chatman, Rome (Ga.)
Unranked DE Tacorrie Russell, Munford (Ala.)
Unranked DE Malik Langham, Lee (Huntsville, Ala.)
Unranked WR Shedrick Jackson, Hoover (Birmingham, Ala.)
3-star LB KJ Phillips, Woodward Academy (Atlanta)
Unranked LB Matthew Flint, Madison County (Gurley, Ala.)
3-star ATH Cam Taylor, Park Crossing (Montgomery, Ala.)

Copeland is one dude I definitely think we land. I'll admit that once a kid commits I follow em on twitter, so he and Gatewood seem to communicate a lot. Copeland seems to have fallen in love with Auburn.

If we can land him and Justyn Ross, that'd be a hell of a haul at WR. Given, we need more than just 2 but that'd be 2 studs.

Dream WR class for me is Justyn Ross, Jacob Copeland and Shedrick Jackson. If Kodi pulls that off then I will believe he can get job done recruiting

I believe we'll land Jackson, for obvious reasons and the fact CKB made JC a top priority will hopefully pay off but I don't see us landing Ross. So far, Ross has chosen to attend certain Bama functions over ours at the same time and unless that changes, i don't see us being able to hold Bama off if they want him.

The #1 reason I was really hoping we would flip Benton late is he is real close with Ross. My only hope is that the big WR class that just got signed might make him shy away but that never seems to stop kids from going to bama

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RECRUITING: INITIAL TOP 25 CLASSES FOR 2018 (Bleacher Report)
quote:

16. Auburn Tigers

Class Size: Three players (one 4-star recruit)

Commitments to Know

4-star quarterback Joey Gatewood, Bartram Trail High School (Jacksonville, Florida)

Auburn gained an early jump on Gatewood, a 6'3", 205-pound prospect who fielded several high-profile offers as a freshman before committing to the Tigers in December 2015. Rated No. 10 nationally among quarterbacks, Gatewood possesses the dual-threat skill set coveted by Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn, as evidenced by his 2,283 rushing yards through three high school seasons, per MaxPreps.

Junior college defensive end Daquan Newkirk, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

This name may sound familiar to Auburn fans because Newkirk previously pledged to the program's 2016 class while in high school at The First Academy in Orlando, Florida. Academics delayed his arrival, according to Drew Champlin of AL.com, but he is expected to be among the top-rated JUCO defenders in this cycle before finally arriving on campus with three years of eligibility left.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RECRUITING: AN EARLY LOOK AT THE TOP 25 PROSPECTS FOR 2018 (Bleacher Report)
quote:

23. 4* RB Lorenzo Lingard

High School/Hometown: University High School; Orange City, Florida

Position Rating: No. 4 running back

Notable Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State

Texas is the latest school to offer 4-star running back Lorenzo Lingard.

Lingard rushed for 656 yards and eight touchdowns as a freshman, according to 247Sports.

The Longhorns join 27 other programs who have already tendered the Sunshine State standout.

As Bill Kurelic of 247Sports noted, Lingard named Big Ten power Ohio State his leader in November.

FWIW Lingard is 5* on composite
quote:

17. 4-Star DE Adam Anderson

High School/Hometown: Rome High School; Rome, Georgia

Position Rating: No. 3 defensive end

Notable Offers: Committed to Georgia

As Scout's Chad Simmons detailed, Georgia was able to get in early and land an impact player in 4-star defensive end Adam Anderson.

He chose to stay close to home and shun early offers from powers such as Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Ohio State.

According to MaxPreps, Anderson recorded five sacks and an interception as a junior.

He is the No. 3 overall prospect from the state of Georgia in the 2018 cycle.

made surprise visit to AU junior day last weekend. haven't figured out which GA DL we are gonna steal late this year just yet
quote:

8. 5-Star OL Jamaree Salyer

High School/Hometown: Pace Academy; Atlanta

Position Rating: No. 1 offensive guard

Notable Offers: Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU and Ohio State

At 6'3 ½", 327 pounds, 5-star offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer is already physically mature enough to compete on the college level.

Salyer was one of a select group of underclassmen who competed at The Opening last year.

LSU was the latest school to offer Salyer, while Clemson was the latest program to get him on campus.

Salyer is one of the nation's premier offensive linemen in the 2018 cycle and the No. 2 overall prospect from the state of Georgia.

never seen a guard prospect get such a high rating but dude is a beast, probably ends up at UGA or Clemson
quote:

6. 5-Star WR Jalen Hall

High School/Hometown: Hawkins High School; Los Angeles

Position Rating: No. 1 receiver

Notable Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC

Hawkins High School in Los Angeles has notable 2017 standouts such as 5-star receiver Joseph Lewis and 4-star athlete Greg Johnson.

College coaches will continue to be a fixture in the hallways at Hawkins to recruit 5-star receiver Jalen Hall.

Over the first three years of his prep career, Hall has recorded 162 catches for 3,355 yards and 29 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

Hall has already committed to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

We are totally pulling a WR from Cali right?
quote:

5. 5-Star RB Zamir White

High School/Hometown: Scotland County High School; Laurinburg, North Carolina

Position Rating: No. 1 running back

Notable Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina

Five-star running back Zamir White is the top overall prospect in North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Over the last three years, the 6'1", 210-pounder has rushed for 5,083 yards and 85 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

Georgia was the last program to get White on campus, which occurred last week at the Bulldogs' first junior day.

White has already pledged to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Another Clemson/UGA battle early this dude's highlight film is ridiculous

I keep seeing Harold Joiner on these lists. Where is Sean Elmore? I know he's been to Auburn a ton over the last year or so and has done really well at some of the camps.

LINK - Seniors, returners, etc.

An early look at Auburn's recruiting needs for National Signing Day in 2018

DEFENSIVE LINE: What Auburn needs in 2018: With back-to-back years of major influxes of talent on the defensive line, Auburn is well situated for the 2017 season and it would take a massive season for Donatvius Russell or Jeff Holland to leave early.

Four-star junior college transfer Daquan Newkirk, who was to be in Auburn's 2016 class, is already committed. It's hard to see Auburn ever targeting less than three defensive linemen with Rodney Garder on staff, but at least two - one end and one tackle - seems realistic as this point.

Haven't found much info on Elmore or seen his name listed in any of the junior day info. Doesn't appear to have any recruit profiles either. His hudl account is mostly basketball highlights from what I can tell

No problem with that. Will probably end up a 4* by end of next cycle. Moves real well for his size. Sounds like we using the same "athlete" pitch as Alaric

I know at one point Lingard has us as a leader but not sure anymore where we stand

I think he's a low 4* by fall. His film is impressive. He's an APB though. I'm not sure he's an everydown back

But what do I know

You don't think a 6'3 218 pound back can be an every down back? Bout to look at his highlights and see what's up.

Physically he should be able to. Skill set points to being able to do more than work out of the backfield.
