DB from familiar high school likes Auburn, Greg Brown

In the 2017 class, it was Markaviest Bryant. In 2018, it was Quay Walker. Bryant went to Auburn. Walker chose Alabama.

Jammie Robinson could break the tie in 2019.

All three prospects have starred for Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga. Bryant and Walker have been the most notable recruiting targets, but now that their times have passed as recruits, attention can now move to the school’s newest standout.

Robinson is a top-300 prospect who can play all over the field, but when the Tigers talk to him, it’s “mostly” at defensive back.

That means a bulk of Robinson’s conversations at Auburn involve secondary coach Greg Brown.

“He’s a nice coach. I love talking and communicating with him,” Robinson said. “Anything I ask, he’s going to let me know what’s up, and he’ll tell me the real deal.”

As of right now, the 5-foot-11 defensive back said he doesn’t “really have a favorite,” calling it early in his process. Despite Robinson admitting it’s early, a few people close to his recruitment have made it seem that Robinson — much like Blaylock — intends on committing sooner rather than later because he’s been involved in the process since his freshman year.

Robinson has also visited Florida State and South Carolina enough to think those programs are legitimate threats for a prospect who goes to a high school that has been friendly to the state of Alabama the last two recruiting cycles.

“I’m looking forward to getting back up (to Auburn),” Robinson said. “I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Recently-offered TE plans to return to Auburn

While Auburn continues to search for the right Class of 2018 tight end, the Tigers have a couple options in the Class of 2019.

The most recent one: Austin Stogner.

Stogner is the No. 5 tight end in the 2019 class, a 4-star prospect from Prestonwood Christian in Plano, Texas. At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, it’s no wonder why Stonger is ranked as the No. 79 overall prospect in the class.

He can run. He can catch. He can block.

Stogner received an offer from Auburn when he visited on June 2-3. His family connection to Larry Porter helped break the ice.

“I talked to coach Porter a lot. He likes the way I play the game. I liked him. He knew my cousin, Dalton Stogner, from North Carolina,” Stogner said. “It’s a great school. It’s a family feel. Everyone knows everyone.”

Now with 26 offers, Stogner can start to narrow down his options, though he said he likely won’t decide until January 2018.

When he does, expect Oklahoma and Florida State to be the front-runners to land him. But don’t count out Auburn. Stogner said he will “for sure” be back on the Plains before he makes that decision six months from now.

Another 2018 commitment coming soon

It’s been a while since Auburn has landed a commitment. The Tigers scored two at A-Day, way back in April, when Kameron Stutts and Kolbi Fuqua chose Auburn. But there has been a lack of public momentum over the last couple of month.

Rest assured, the coaching staff has made plenty of positive moves behind the scenes.

At least one of those will reach the public forum next week. Expect a commitment from the Tigers on the offensive side of the ball next week that will likely help catapult Auburn to a successful rest of the summer.

This is more than likely Shedrick Jackson who has supposedly been working on a commitment video

we need some recruiting momentum. Seems like nothing is really happening. Coaches need to pick it up a notch.

Coaches are on vacation right now for 3 week because there is a dead period coming up. Barring a commit video by Shedrick Jackson which could happen at any day, we may not get anymore commitments til August but could have a flurry of them that month.

Seems like more than usual "insiders" are hearing different things. Multiple AU sites seem to now think AU leads for Coynis Miller while all the Bama guys still feel really good about getting him. There's all the Fields drama and mixed signals coming out about Justyn Ross as well. LSU side thinks they are gonna close on Andres Fox while AU feels good about where they stand. Seems like people having a harder time getting solid intel on recruits this year
2010 all over again which ended up being a real good class.

Good class in terms of fake recruiting ranks? It was actually full of bust and criminals.

It had Cam Newton in it who got us a Natty so it's a good class in my book.

Overall though yeah a lot of bust.

I obviously hope this class is better but what I was referring to with the 2010 reference is there were a good number of prospects the recruiting media said AU didn't lead with while most AU sources said we did lead. AU landed most of those guys.

Jaylyn Armor-Davis to bammer.

Not surprising. reminds me a lot of John Broussard. Very highly ranked early in the evals. But his lack of size drops his rankings. Good player, but not what the early hype suggested.

however now that he's a bama commit, he'll probably get a 5th star.

Not sure I agree with that assessment. Armour-Davis just got a nice bump from Scout recently. He's a top 10 corner in this class. Both him and McMichael are that level so it sucks to miss on em both

Anyone who gets their hopes up on Fields, Ross, Asa Martin, or Coynis Miller are going to be extremely disappointed. I just write them off, then if we do sign any of them, it will be like Christmas morning.

So where does CB recruiting go from here? Some names to watch

4* Jordan Miner --> have not heard much on him & AU recently. If he visits then we might become a bigger player
3* Juanyeh Thomas --> has always been a top target. I think perfect world was Armour-Davis/McMichael/Thomas at this spot. Gotta get Thomas at this point
3* Kendrick Torain --> I really like this kid and his recruitment is picking up. Would not be surprised to see him become a top target
3* Charles McClelland --> not sure if we recruiting him as a S or CB
3* Stanley Garner --> Big kid but not sold on him yet, camped at AU recently
3* Tae Provens --> apparently Brown really likes him as a DB, kid wants to play RB
3* JaKorey Hawkins --> got an offer over evaluation period but we haven't been recruiting hard, that might change now

With Monday trending Clemson as well, hard to not be disappointed with where things are going right now at the DB spot. Still there are some guys like Thomas, Joseph Foucha and Jamien Sherwood to be excited about. Brown better be an elite evaluator & developer of talent because it's clear he's not an elite recruiter right now

CB and pretty sure he is a high target.

I think we like him at Safety as far as the defensive side goes.

This may be true but recent events except maybe JAD quotes aren't necessarily evidence of that. Coaches at Mizzou don't have the same resources to recruit like AU does to be able to develop relationships with higher rated recruits & recruiting is all about relationship. I would be surprised if he did not have a relationship with any of the higher rated guys before he came to AU. Most recruiting battles are not won in that short a time. Plus having a new DB coach every year has hurt us on the recruiting trail.

I don't understand anyone getting upset with DB recruiting, other than the fact we have had so much turnover.

Nobody but T-Rob can change spots like that and keep relationships with the top guys. His having been at UF is a clear advantage for him. Even he is struggling to get elite kids to USCe.

It is what it is, but crying (not meaning you E) about it constantly is just sad. I will take a guy with THREE THORPE WINNERS at smaller schools over all the Hot Shot recruiting gurus that can't coach a kid how to find the ball in the air, any day. It doesn't work for us. We need coaches that develop kids and in return, develop their recruiting ability at the same time. Shortcuts have gotten us right where we are. It won't happen tonight, or tomorrow night, but give me a guy who can find athletes, and make them into players ATP.

ETA: Sorry, it's not just this board. I just think being located where we are, there are plenty of athletes capable of playing DB. We just need someone who can teach them how vs. just throwing them out there based on recruiting values. Call me crazy ??, and I'm sure you will!

Seems to be zero enthusiasm in our recruiting

Hopefully the coaches are focused on the season
