QB commit takes 2-night trip to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | Auburn quarterback commitment Joey Gatewood visited Auburn for the final time of the summer, and the four-star recruit made it count.

Gatewood, who is from Bartram Trail in Jacksonville, Fla., arrived in Auburn on Sunday and stayed until Tuesday.

“It was great, awesome,” Gatewood said. “It was great to be back home again, great to hang out with some of the players and also talk a lot with the coaches.”

Gatewood met with Gus Malzahn, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and spent time with several newcomers, including transfer quarterback Jarrett Stidham and freshmen Big Cat Bryant and Devan Barrett.

“I was with Coach Lindsey a lot, Coach Malzahn a lot,” Gatewood said. “Coach Lindsey is an awesome dude. I can’t wait until I get there. I think he has a great game plan for us. And me and Jarrett sat down and watched a lot of film together. Jarrett is a cool dude, a real cool dude. I had a real good time with him.”

Gatewood will return to Auburn in the fall for an official visit, most likely the weekend of Sept. 29 when the Tigers host Mississippi State. Gatewood will sign with the Tigers in December and enroll in January. He has little doubt about that.

“I’ve been talking to and recruiting (five-star receiver) Justyn Ross, (four-star running back) Asa Martin and (four-star lineman) Tank Jenkins,” Gatewood said.

Gatewood is aware of Auburn’s plans to sign two quarterbacks in the 2018 class. He has been aware since the spring.

“Coach Lindsey told me that,” Gatewood said. “It doesn’t bother me. You’re going to have competition wherever you go.”

Gatewood, who is 6-foot-4 and weighs 225 pounds, is ranked by Rivals as the No. 7 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class and No. 123 in the Rivals250.

Auburn Crystal Ball Picks: Love it, Like It, Leave It (247)

Copy & paste is disabled so here's summary. Basically "Love It" means he's extremely confident in his CB pick. "Like It" means he feels good about his CB pick but recruiting can change so more of a AU is trending type of thing. "Leave it" means he liked his CB pick but isn't sure anymore. Could be another team is trending or things have tightened up

Love It
4* WR Anthony Schwartz --> All UF
4* OT Richard Gouraige --> another Gator
4* OG Tank Jenkins --> He's ready to be done with recruitment & AU looks really good. Could pop soon
4* DE Richard Jibunor --> With UGA not offering looking really good for AU
4* LB Michael Harris --> OHST doesn't have room (for now) & AU is pouncing all over the opportunity. Very close with T-WILL
3* S Jamien Sherwood --> AU has made a big move and he's visiting again this weekend. Says he won't commit but KN says there's a chance

Like It
4* WR Matthew Hill --> Says reason he's here and not in "love it" is because he hasn't committed yet despite all the smoke. Thinks SCAR has made this a real battle. Gut still says it's AU but not as certain
4* WR Kearis Jackson --> UGA #1, AU #2 but apparently not all sources think it's a lock to UGA. If Fields picks AU could get interesting but as of now still thinks it's all Dawg
3* TE Tommy Tremble --> Confidence growing he lands at ND
4* OG Trey Hill --> KN was first to pick UGA for Hill & still feels good about it tho he & his dad are adamant no team is in the lead. FSU is a threat & he's visiting AU again this week but UGA still seems like the pick
4* DE Coynis Miller --> AU/BAMA/UF battle with intel saying AU has slight lead. Relationship with Garner being the big thing. UF gets last visit before decision and says never count out Bama
4* LB Channing Tindall --> Still looks like SCAR is team to beat but AU & UGA making it a race
4* LB Zakoby McClain --> AU leads but he's only visited once. If he makes it to campus as expected this weekend that should really give AU momentum. If they can get Harris on board too could use that to push McClain as well

Leave It
5* QB Justin Fields --> AU/UGA/FSU battle. All the teams are in it but he isn't sure where he goes right now
4* RB Asa Martin --> Originally looked like AU/UF battle & KN thought location would help win out. Bama's offer changed the game and they probably have slight lead. KN says tho because he's had CB pick there for so long and AU gets another visit he is going to leave it but he's not confident at all
4* RB Harold Joiner --> No idea what he's gonna do, not even sure if he's gonna visit this weekend
4* WR Justyn Ross --> AU/BAMA/CLEM battle where KN thinks CLEM might be pick right now. Has had CB pick for AU for some time & since he thinks it's a toss up will keep it on AU but because he's a long way from decision & big year by AU could have an affect will leave it
4* WR Seth Williams --> Basically not sure where he is on either AU or Bama's board. Belief is if Bama wants him they get him but not sure if they want him
3* TE Michael Parker --> KN feels might have jumped the gun. Thinks there is a limited window for him to jump on board and he seems to want to wait so AU might go in different direction
3* DE Andres Fox --> Recruitment has been all over the place with Bama, AU & LSU all looking like landing places at certain times. Now delaying decision & Stanford in the mix. Says if he were to change pick it would be to foggy so just sticking with AU
3* CB Charles McClelland --> Says it's a hunch pick after his AU offer. Tigers missed on top 2 guys in Armour-Davis & McMichael but will continue to recruit. Not sure if they would take his commitment right now
3* S Joseph Foucha --> Basically KN doesn't know where he is on LSU & AU board

Auburn in good spot to land Georgia 4-star linebacker Zakoby McClain (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn is "still at the top" for Valdosta, Ga., linebacker Zakoby McClain, he said late last week at the USA 7on7 National Championships in Hoover.

And right now, there's no clear No. 2 for McClain, a 6-foot, 205-pound four-star recruit.

McClain said he plans to visit Auburn on Saturday for a picnic and wants to commit somewhere before his senior season begins.

"They talk to me every day," McClain said. "Me and (linebackers) coach T-Will (Travis Williams) are real close and cool and he hits me up all the time. He's good. He's like a father figure."

McClain said he hasn't committed yet because he still wants to see more schools. He wants to take his five official visits, and said he should be visiting Tennessee soon unofficially.

But Auburn looks like it is in the driver's seat in McClain's recruitment.

"They want me to play outside linebacker, but think I can also play a little bit of inside," McClain said. "Their defense is similar to our defense, with it being fast and with tempo."

McClain is looking for several key aspects before making his decision. He wants to major in business management.

"The atmosphere, the coaching staff, the academics, if I can play early," he said. "Those are some of the main things."

McClain is ranked as the No. 222 overall recruit and No. 15 outside linebacker in the 247Sports composite.

If Thomas isn't a CB target, I have no idea who we are recruiting at CB. Maybe staff thinks they can flip Armour-Davis or McMichael? Maybe Foucha is a CB target? There's Charles McClelland too. Honestly confused what's going on at that spot
A guy on AUFam who has connections says Tutt is a guy the staff likes but are looking at his grades right now FWIW.

Jenkins told SEC Country it’s possible he doesn’t announce his decision until National Signing Day.

Funny that JLee expected him to commit to AU this week. lol

Wut? I have not seen anything that said he was Auburn. Most sites still have us 3rd for him.

You haven't read stuff brought over here from The Bunker then.

He went to school at UF but has made it clear many times he's not a fan. I don't know how. I would be in his shoes but he isn't.

Ok. but Is still not get my hopes up too high. Hunter48 and mikeeb22 may not really know jack...

Temper expectations. Learn from the past
Like I said last week. No lead we MAY have is safe. Not only do we have to get him committed but we have to win big so there isn't key staff turnover for 2018 to likely keep him.

But if we are talking sites and percentages, 247 has this right now

FSU - 36%
UGA - 20%
UF - 16%
AU - 12%
And it means nothing. None of those FSU picks came from reporters that cover FSU. The only picks that have value in this recruitment will be from AU, FSU, UGA, UF, & maybe Bama recruiting reporters.

heard something recently about Fields and his dad being extremely impressed with Auburn's sports medicine and training staff. His dad was intently focused on how teams can keep his son healthy and if hurt, get back to 100%. They told him about giving Pettway the platelet rich plasma injections to his quad last year and that helped with his recovery and they came away impressed. They like that Auburn stays on the cutting edge with equipment and medical types of things.

Nothing about PRP injections is cutting edge. That's old medicine these days. So I wouldn't take that nugget of information too seriously.

could be, but my understanding was the "cutting edge" comment was sort of an all encompassing thing....including the meal plan, equipment, high tech training info w/ Ryan Russell, etc. along with the medical staff.

Could be wrong, but that's how I read what the guy sent me.

Apparently Rivals originally reported it but KN is confirming that 4* DT Coynis Miller will visit AU again next week and it will probably be an overnighter. His Florida visit this weekend was thought to be his last one before committing but now looking like AU will get the last one

This would be a HUGE win for this staff to land Miller

After the way Garner shite the bed last recruiting (and eveth one he had had here minus 1), Miller better cone here. Can't have a good defense with those kind of ridiculously weak DO classes.

Maybe We will get brave and actually sign 2 See in this class.
