Sorry but a lot of people on this board have forgotten how to have a civil conversation. Once there is a disagreement, they pull out the personal attacks. It has pretty much ruined most legitimate discussions

Defensive back commits enjoy time with Greg Brown, future teammates on official visit (SECCountry)
quote:

Nothing was going to deter commit Carlito Gonzalez from coming to Auburn. Yet even after 18 months of being committed, officially visiting over the weekend only increased the defensive back’s eagerness to become a Tiger.

While spending time with the soon-to-be teammates he’s come to know through his recruitment process, Gonzalez also continued familiarizing himself with new Auburn’s new defensive backs coach, Greg Brown.

The only thing that somewhat surprised Gonzalez and fellow commits Traivon Leonard and Jordyn Peters was how much they were already starting to process in such a short time.

“I’m just learning stuff and I’m not even here yet,” said Gonzalez, who was hosted by Marlon Character. “It’s going to be something serious when I do get here. He (Character) taught me a lot of stuff about how the DBs practice and everything,” Gonzalez said. “I just got a lot of experience. “I’m going to learn from Tray Matthews of course and the other two safeties that are here. I feel like I’m going to come in and play as a freshman and make an impact and just learn and grow.”

That knowledge is going to be critical with the turnover Auburn will have at the cornerback position in the future — four Tigers will be seniors next season.

And though the trio doesn’t know their new position coach well, the group already respects Brown, who’s coached three Jim Thorpe Award winners.

“He’s a very nice person, very down to earth guy,” Gonzalez said. “He coached Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Landon Collins. When I found that out I was like, ‘Wow,’ because those are two players I look up to and they’re both safeties. He’s just a very down-to-earth person and he’s cool all the time. I feel like it’s going to be great.”

Peters is listed as a safety, but likely will spend time at cornerback first. No matter where he ends up, he already appreciates the training he knows he’s going to get from Brown.

“I really liked that we got to sit down and actually watch film and work a little bit more on technique and how he’s going to coach us and stuff,” Peters said. “He’s the real deal and he’s a cool guy. We all like him.”

Over the weekend, Peters picked up on how well Brown is fitting in with the current staff and why he ended up on the Plains.

“You can tell Coach (Kevin) Steele likes him a lot because he’s been talking about him and why he picked him and all that. I could tell why he picked him because he reminds me a lot of Coach Steele.”

Leonard isn’t just ready to get on the field under Brown, he’s looking to try to impress the former Mizzou DB coach. He knows the impression he got from Brown is just as important as the one he gave.

“He obviously has a good resume,” Leonard said. “He reminds me of Coach (Scott) Fountain a little bit. They both have high energy. I’m ready to play for him. He’s a guy that you don’t want to let down. He’s always happy. He’s always going into detail about what he wants and want he wants you to be like. I’m ready to play for him and ready to make him proud. I wanted to impress him, and I think I did. The next step is getting me here and impressing him on the field and letting him know how much of a good person I am.”

The three commits will sign next week and then try as patiently as possible to wait to arrive on the Plains. They’ll train, talk through their group chat and continue to grow closer.

“(Auburn) is just a family atmosphere. Everyone here is my family,” Gonzalez said. “I just love everything about it. It’s beautiful here all the time, even when it’s raining. I’m already clicking with my teammates. It’s tradition. It’s everything.”

I think Gonzalez is gonna be a stud down the road. He already looks big enough to play. Kid has been committed for 18 months through 3 different DB coaches & 2 different DCs so gonna be cheering hard for him to succeed. Will be curious to see where Peters lands. He is very athletic but I don't think he's ready to play yet. Of the 4 DBs I think he is the one farthest away from PT

H-back target Chase Lasater calls Auburn his ‘main school’ (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn’s addition of offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey meant many things for the Tigers. But its implications for 3-star fullback target Chase Lasater might’ve been even greater.

Lasater took his official visit to Auburn this weekend. He received his offer recently when Rhett Lashlee still was offensive coordinator. With the coaching change, Gus Malzahn made it clear that this would be Lindsey’s offense to operate. That means potential slight personnel changes for the Tigers.

Because of that, Lasater said he needs to hold out on a potential commitment — something he seems eager to do — to see how Auburn expects to use the fullback role during the Lindsey era.

“I’ve had the Auburn offer for a few weeks but I’d like to know 100 percent their intent and all that, but once I have that, most definitely I’ll be out here,” Lasater said on Sunday.

Lindsey and Lasater have a small relationship that dates back to earlier in the fullback’s recruitment. At Arizona State, Lindsey was one of the primary points of contact with Lasater, but those communications were minimal.

Lasater enjoyed the opportunity to meet with Lindsey and learn more about how the H-back will be utilized going forward.

“I was just wondering what type of scheme he’s going to run. He said spread and power, and I like the power with the H-back,” Lasater said.

The Auburn staff plans to visit Lasater in Jacksonville, Fla., early in the week. From there, he will know for certain if his offer is 100 percent committable and if the Tigers are the team for him. At this time, he certainly believes Auburn is his eventual choice, but he wants to do his due diligence.

Lasater was once a Michigan commit. The Wolverines are in the mix, but he noted he’d rather not play “somewhere cold.” Miami and Memphis also have entered the picture.

But his preferences aren’t a secret.

“As of now, I’m pretty sure Auburn is my main school,” Lasater said.

Now that's a Florida boy

Auburn target Tyler Taylor has 2 finalists, expects to commit this week (AL.com)
quote:

"I think it's going to be between Auburn and LSU," said the four-star linebacker at Lanier High School in Buford, Ga. "I know I have a few more home visits, (Auburn) is bringing the defensive staff in I think this week right before I commit. I'll probably be letting the coaches know at least around Thursday."

Taylor had previously listed Auburn and Oklahoma as his top schools, but LSU made a big push for him during his official visit to Baton Rouge last weekend. Members of the Auburn and LSU coaching staffs are expected to take in-home visits to see Taylor early this week.

"With the depth chart, they were telling me how they really need linebackers," Taylor said of LSU. "I really have no choice but to play there. They're not giving it to me, you have to work for it."

Taylor is ranked as a four-star prospect and the nation's No. 10 inside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite. Should he land at Auburn, he said the Tigers plan to play him at both inside and outside linebacker.

Two teams lead for St. Paul's 4-star defensive end Ryan Johnson as decision nears (AL.com)
quote:

Johnson found out on Friday that he was officially accepted to Stanford -- making the idea of heading west for his college career that much more intriguing. Had he not been accepted to the university, the lifelong Auburn fan would have no hesitation with choosing to spend the next three or four years at Auburn.

"That makes things a whole lot harder now," Johnson said. "If that wasn't in the equation, it would be Auburn as the lead right now, but with them right now, it's hard."

Johnson took his official visit to Stanford last week, while this weekend marked his first trip back to the Plains since Sept. 17 for the Texas A&M game. While Johnson said his visit went "great" and he talked about the relationships he has with several current Auburn players, he added that he never felt any pressure or urge to make a commitment this weekend.

"Not trying to make any hasty decisions... so I'm not going to try to jump the bandwagon," Johnson said. "I'm just going to go home and write down the pros and cons and see where I'm at from there."

One pro that's in Auburn's favor is the fact that the Tigers were the first to extend a scholarship offer to Johnson back on Feb. 25, 2015. Since that day, he said, Auburn's coaching staff has always made him feel "like a priority."

As signing day nears, Johnson is without a doubt Auburn's top priority as the team looks to add an elite pass-rusher to help create depth along the defensive line and fill the void left by Carl Lawson's early departure for the NFL.

Of course, there are some other factors for Johnson to consider these next few days as he weighs his college options.

"Somewhere I'm comfortable with, somewhere if I get hurt, I can see myself there taking regular classes, getting along with the people in the school and the coaches, somewhere with a winning program," Johnson said. "Nobody likes losing, so I got to go somewhere I can win."

Why Auburn has Chase Lasater's offer on hold (AL.com)
quote:

"As of now I'm pretty sure Auburn's my main school," Lasater said. "They love the way I play, they love my film.

"They're going to give me a call tomorrow and then fly out and then pretty much I'll know if I'm going to play here to not."

The 6-foot-2, 224-pounder said Lindsey recruited him while he was at Arizona State, and he enjoyed the time he spent with him at Auburn Sunday.

"I've talked to him on Twitter and then very briefly today," Lasater said. "He seems like a cool guy. He seems like a nice guy.

"I was wondering what type of scheme he's going to run and he was saying spread and power. I like the power, of course, playing H-back... It's just how I've played football since I was a little kid. When someone's in the way you have to hit them, it's just how I play ball -- I don't know much else."

Lasater is ranked as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 4 fullback in the 247Sports Composite. He may take a final official visit to Memphis next weekend, but hasn't decided for sure.

"Honestly I had a great time (at Auburn) meeting all the players, the coaching staff," he said. "Love the family atmosphere out here, it was great. Beautiful campus. Everything down South. I had a great time."

National Signing Day flashback: Byron Cowart, 2015 (Rivals)
quote:

The Schools: Auburn, Florida

How it all went down: The last month of Byron Cowart’s recruitment had many twists and turns. Ranked as the nation’s No. 1 overall player, there was plenty of attention on Cowart as he weighed his options between Auburn and Florida. What made Cowart’s choice particularly difficult was the fact that Will Muschamp had been fired as Florida’s coach late in the fall of 2014 and hired by Auburn as defensive coordinator.

Cowart had a clear affinity for the Gators, and if Muschamp had stayed there would have been very little drama surrounding his commitment. But Cowart announced he was committing to Auburn on national TV on National Signing Day.

That was just the start of the drama, however.

It quickly became apparent that Cowart hadn’t yet faxed in his letter of intent. Rumors swirled about where exactly the document was and whether his high school coach was keeping him from sending it in. His high school coach then gave an interview saying that Cowart had actually signed two letters, one for Florida and one for Auburn, and told him not to send either.

Cowart then refuted that claim in an interview with Rivals.com, saying he had only signed one letter and his coach had failed to fax it in. Adding to the conspiracy theories was the fact that at the time, Cowart’s coach at Armwood High School, Sean Callahan, had a son, Kirk Callahan, on staff with the Gators.

After seven hours of a drama, Auburn finally received the signed letter, but not before a day of ups and downs. Cowart’s career with the Tigers has seen just as many bumps in the road, as he’s failed to live up to his pre-college ranking and has just 12 career tackles in two seasons.

National Memories: “That day was very interesting because after he committed on television, everyone wanted to know where the letter was. He had apparently signed two, one for Florida and one for Auburn, and wanted to see where CeCe Jefferson was going, although in the end that didn’t impact him. His coach wanted him at Florida, that was for sure, and probably interjected himself into things a bit too much, but the text messages with Byron that day were very interesting.” – Rivals.com National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell.

The highest rated Mid-Atlantic offensive tackles from the last five years (Rivals)
quote:

Calvin Ashley

One of the most hotly debated prospects in the 2017 class, Calvin Ashley lost his fifth star before his senior season and nearly regained it after a good showing at the Under Armour All-America Game. Despite a strong push from Maryland, Ashley remains committed to Auburn and says he has shut his recruitment down.

I honestly don't have a damn clue who we are finishing with but I don't see how we can finish strong. We are most likely set up for disappointment.

Caught up with RB commit Devan Barrett
The 4-star tailback says he's still "pretty solid" to the Tigers but is "keeping his options open." He'll visit Indiana next weekend. Likes Larry Scott and Coach G a lot. Will host Butch and Gus both on visits Tuesday. Still not sure he's a legit flip candidate. Def sounds like a guy doing his due diligence.

"It's a great school. I'm in the process. I'm still open. We'll see what happens. I'm still thinking."

Said he "keep his options open, keep an open mind, can't commit to one school."

WTF, over!

This late in the game, our coaches should pull in someone else that is solid if there is someone available. Not try and put the scholarship out there to a possibly high flipper. We cant take any more hits at RB

So back to my question

We get

Ryan Johnson
Tyler Taylor
Chase Lassiter
1 3* OT

That leaves 1 spot.

Who are some names for that spot?

No one else can offer production to a RB like us. We should leverage that, and tell him to get on board, or GTFO. If he wants to play at UT and have the TE coach calling plays, then have at it.

To be fair, he probably saw Chip Lindsey's offenses and saw that their team rushing was ranked above a hundred one or two times.
Edit) 121st, 54th, 112th in team rushing
