Auburn is making a move on Trinity Valley College's Jerod Evans. The Texas JUCO QB spoke on the phone this afternoon with Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Rhett Lashlee. Lashlee told Evans that he would be at TVC's game next weekend at Arkansas Baptist to evaluate him, and that he would be speaking with Malzahn about offering a scholarship. Lashlee likes what he has seen, but still would like to see Evans in person before extending an offer, according to the QB.

Evans, 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, was extremely excited to hear from Lashlee and Auburn. As a junior college quarterback, Evans has looked up to Cam Newton, the path Newton took -- from four-year school to JUCO to four-year school -- and the success the former Auburn QB has had and continues to have in the NFL.

Evans wants to take the same path. He's seen Newton and Nick Marshall, and that's enough. Evans wants to be next. Given the opportunity, he will be.

His JUCO really doesn't mind ripping off logos

Had an Alabama A on the field with the GT yellow jacket at the 20s. And then their helmets are the Arizona Cardnials logo.

ETA: so what happened to him at A&M? Did he steal something? That's what I'm hoping for.

Evans' story is a little different than most. He graduated from Mansfield (Texas) High in 2012, spent a year at the Air Force Prep School (doesn't count towards college eligibility) before spending 2013 at the Air Force Academy. He redshirted at the Academy before transferring to Trinity Valley where he has spent the past two seasons.

Evans is scheduled to graduate in December and enroll at a four-year school in January. He will have two years to play two.
