2014- Year 2 of a rebuild or regression towards the mean?

So we are all disappointed in the 2014 season. We all know what happened, no need to rehash it. But so you feel 2014 was a rebuilding year? Did 2013 fool us into thinking no rebuilding was required? We had players on offense, and we scored points but had major redzone issues at times. Defense had only signed 2 DE combined in 2011 and 2012 classes.

Or is 2014 a regression towards the mean with Massage? I said when we hired him that he was a 7-5
coach who cannot scout qbs. I was wrong in 2013, but issues we saw as OC seem to have reared this heads in 2014. What do you think?

I'm pretty concerned honestly. Not just because of the record this year but other worrying factors as well.

Hopefully this was a wake up call for Gus that it's not as easy as he made it seem in 2013. Also, Muschamp gives hope but we are definitely a program on the fence right now.

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Well, Massage can clearly scout QB's but he does make some questionable play calls occasionally. However, he's one of the best in the business when it comes to fitting schemes to his personnel. Our O-line this year got blown up on a regular basis. CAP is a solid RB, but he doesn't have that next level speed to escape the shitty blocking. Our WR's were inconsistent, at best. Marshall is a gamer but he doesn't have a well-rounded game.

The thing that worries me the most is the team's attitude. I think once we lost the Ms State game, the team more or less gave up. Hopefully losing that game was the only reason why and not a sign of a deeper issue.

So he can't scout QBs? We have JJ and SW. We are fine at QB. The offense was good this year. The defense after the LSU game collapsed and the OL was not near as consistent as 2013. That's what basically happened this year. Do you think Muschamp won't do shite coming into AU? Negafrickin barn.

What concerns me is the people who think Muschamp is going to have the D fixed just by showing up on campus.I am sick of hearing things like well we simplified the playbook so they'll understand it better.I've got an idea stop recruiting morons. We have a lot of issues and I'll give Gus a pass since this is only his third year of being a head coach but like some of you the predictability is getting old.

Defense. Defense. Defense.

I'm not concerned with anything on the offensive side of the ball. Our QB and RB situation going into next year would make any SEC team envious. Our depth on OL is excellent and recruiting for the offensive side of the ball looks to be good. We are averaging over 35 points per game in the last two seasons putting us in the top 15 for both years.

I am hopeful that Muschamp can turn things around on the defensive side of the ball. He is a good coach. Now, do we have the players he needs to get it done? I can't answer that. Our defense doesn't need to be great. It just needs to be good.

Our schedule will always be hard, but it won't be as difficult as last year where all of our tough games were on the road. I am much more optimistic about this coming season than I was about this past one.

Tyrik Rollinson, Clint Mosley, Kyle Frazier, and zeke pike say hi.

We have JJ

Chizik and co basically signed JJ. Remember how he was the perfect qb for Lolfeller's pro style system, then he became the perfect qb for Gus.

I'm not worried about the offense or getting players to play on that offense. Anyone worrying about offense has absolutely no memory or common sense. There will always be things to look at and say 'that should be better.' doesn’t mean it's some sinister trend.

It's really a matter of having a balanced defense that can make more than three stops a game.

This is the Brannigan I'm used to seeing.

Let's go ahead and fire Gus before this thing gets any worse.

There are some things that concerned me but I think we are still going forward. I am nowhere close to worried. This next season will be a good indicator of where we are as a program.

defenses everywhere are behind right now, bama had a historically bad year defensively (under saban).

compound that with bad tackling and a lack of talent at positions and you get the 2014 auburn defense.

we scored well enough on offense imo. I think the fact we averaged 35 points a game and still saw huge room for improvement speaks to gus' ability.

we need a good full back and a sweep threat to round out the offense.

I'm not worried

We were pretty much the same this year as last year. The primary differences were:

1. Greater expectations
2. Harder schedule
3. Made big plays in big moments in 2013, but not 2014.

The difference in 11-1 and 8-4 isn't usually as big as people think.

If we just make our FGs we wouldve won 10 games this year...

Would've beat Wisconsin and A&M

Just seeing a bunch of overreactions by the regular nega's. Nothing new about that. If I recall the majority of our fans here predicted 3-4 losses. Of course I have a difficult time predicting losses so I didn't .

With that said looking at our schedule even I knew we were up against a monumental task to even come out with 2 losses. You add in the loss of some key guys to draft and injury and we needed some luck. If some of you are already looking to fire Gus? frick off you little bitches.

We stacked at QB right now but just remember that Massage is the same guy that scouted Frazier and had Jeff Driskell as Fraziers backup plan.

Overall I think we are fine. We had some personnel issues this season, and I think a lot of the players came in feeling like their shite didn't stink and they mailed it in when we were out of contention. But this is only Malzahns 3rd year as a HC at the college level and I'm willing to give him a pass as long as he shows he learned from this season.

I will say this I will be extremely disappointed if we don't contend for the SEC next season and finish any less than second in the west. With what we return on both sides of the ball and what the rest of the division is losing there are no excuses.
