Probably Mackenzie Gore (Left handed prep pitcher from NC), or Austin Beck (Prep outfielder from NC) assuming they fall to us, and at least one of those should. There have also been some recent mocks that have us taking Shane Baz (Right handed prep pitcher from TX), but I'm really hoping we snag one of the NC guys.

If you think they are going after a low ceiling, maxed out college player, then you really do not know the organization.

Like was said above me, we are going high school, and probably high school pitcher. Both Gore and Baz have tons of helium. Gore might not even make it to #5, but if he was, he is probably the favorite. If we can get Baz to forgo his commitment to TCU, then he is definitely an option, and he is one of the youngest pitchers in the draft, and that is one of the biggest factors we look for. Beck is probably a distant third.

As long as this front office is in Atlanta, you can look at four things when it comes to the first round. 1.High School 2.Pitcher 3.Young in his class 4.High ceiling. Until they go against that philosophy, I would trust it.

Yeah I liked that strategy when the braves already had a winning team but I want to win soon.

Financially, Braves can take their time. That's the advantage to building a new stadium; proven economic phenomena that fans will show up for the novelty of the new park for first 3-4 years regardless of on-field performance.

Ive read that we are going to sign somebody relatively cheap so that we can spend a lot on our second pick

What's the philosophy behind that?

Its the same philosophy we did last year. We got 3 guys last year that were ranked in the top 25 prospect rankings. We could have spent all our pool money on one of the top prospects like Riley Pint, but we would not have had the money for another big prospect in the draft.

Its looking good so far. Both Anderson and Wentz are pitching very well in A ball, and Mueller will be starting in Danville once their season starts.

I did read that we could do that again this year, but Im not sure Im buying it. The reports are saying that we are looking to go under slot with a guy like Nick Polazzo, who is a high school 1B from California. Then we would use our second pick on a guy like Tristen Beck, who was a huge prospect before the year, but hasnt played at Stanford this year because of injury.

If we go high school again, the prospect probably wont be ready for 4 years minimum.

Lets say we take a college arm this year. That guy isnt going to have the ceiling that the high school arm has, especially JB, who many think will be a high leverage reliever because of his size, and how he pitches. That guy probably wont be ready until late 2018 at the earliest. Well, by the time he is ready, we will already have Sims, Newcomb, Allard, Fried, Weigel, and maybe more guys that will be ready as well. I dont understand the strategy.

Now if there was a college bat that was thought of that high, I might feel differently, but there isnt one this year according to scouts, although I do love Jake Berger from Missouri State, and I think he is a top 5 player in the draft, but he isnt going that early.

They already seem about 25% better than last year even though playoffs are not happening this season.

Last year was a perfect storm for us to underslot our first pick due to our draft pool size and the extra pick we traded for. We don't have either of those working for us this year so I'd be surprised if we did anything other than BPA at #5.

On this day last year, the Braves were 12-32, had score 138 runs and had given up 210.

This year, we are 20-23 while scoring 199 runs, and giving up 218.

We are definitely better, and should only be getting better with our young guys like Inciarte and Dansby playing much better, and the pen being almost lights out the past couple weeks. The starters suck, but our best one is our 25 yr old guy Folty, and we have more coming in the next couple months.

We should be in wild card contention next year, and playing for the division in 2019.
