We need to trade Dansby. It will declutter the infield and make room for talent. If I'm Coppy I'm doing this. It will be tough but it's the best way.

In what way is the infield cluttered? Going forward you have Freddie at 1st, Ozzie at 2nd (and that's assuming he meets your lofty standards and can get past all of his struggles before the end of his first full season of play), no third baseman, and no shortstop.

Camargo is nothing more than a utility man that happened to get relatively hot with the bat during the same time that Dansby struggled. Otherwise, what do we have? Sean Rod? Danny Santana? Phillips?

That's not a cluttered infield. That's the makings of a solid bench and nothing more.

Acunas stats have literally gotten better every time he's taken a step up in level. He's a fvckin cyborg.

Max Fried has been called up to ATL from Mississippi, sounds like he'll work out of the pen. Did not see this one coming.

Me neither. Looks like they want to get him some experience while keeping his innings down. Apparently they have acknowledged that blister issues were the cause of his struggles this year and were more than happy with his spring training performance as well as his performance when healthy this year.

FWIW, I don't think DICKS Sporting Goods got the memo he's been sent down, his jerseys are still $120 as of yesterday when I visited one

Let's marvel at Ronald Acuna for a minute

2017 Stats by Level

A+ Florida - 28 games, 115 ABs, .287 AVG, .336 OBP, .814 OPS, 3 HR, 19 RBI, 6.3% BB/31.7% K, 135 wRC+

AA Mississippi - 57 games, 221 ABs, .326 AVG, .374 OBP, .895 OPS, 9 HR, 30 RBI, 7.4% BB/23.0% K, 159 wRC+

AAA Gwinnett - 25 games, 96 ABs, .354 AVG, .436 OBP, 1.009 OPS, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 11.7% BB/18.9% K, 184 wRC+

Total : 110 games, 432 AB, .322 AVG, .379 OBP, .899 OPS, 16 HR, 61 RBI, 36 SB/18 CS

162 Game Pace :
.322 AVG
.379 OBP
.899 OPS
24 HR
89 RBI
53 SB

He's literally gotten better, across the board, each time he's gone up a level. He's not human.

He's basically tracking like Andruw did, with less HR power.

Andruw's last year in MILB over 162 game pace:

A+ Durham: 66 Games, 289 PAs, .313/.419/.605 (1.024), 17 HR/14 2B, 43 RBI, 16/4 SB and CS, 54/42 SO to BB

AA Greenville: 38 Games, 176 PAs, .369/.432/.675 (1.107), 12 HR/10 2B, 37 RBI, 12 SB/4 CS, 34 SO/17 BB

AAA Richmond: 12 Games, 46 PAs, .378/.391/.822 (1.214), 5 HR/3 2B, 12 RBI, 2 SB/2 CS, 9 SO/1 BB

The difference is that Andruw played more games at the lower levels and barely played in AAA before getting called up. If Acuna hadn't been injured last year, I think you could have potentially seen more power numbers this year which would put him a little closer to Andruw.

Total 162 game pace for those Minor League Games in 96:

.339/.421/.652 (1.072), 47 HRs, 128 RBI, 42 SBs

Gohara struggled last night, Acuna had a triple.

Mississippi had a DH rained out. Yikes.

Nothing exciting happened with Florida.

Bryse Wilson had another DOMINANT performance. 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 11 Ks, 1 BB. In his last 5 starts, he's given up 0 R three times, 1 R one time, and then struggled in a 5 R outing.

It'll be interesting to see if Wentz and Bryse get the Allard/Soroka treatment and skip A+ next year. Depending on trades and rates of promotion, at some point next year we could see a Mississippi rotation of Wentz/Anderson/Wright/Wilson/Touki with guys like Allard/Soroka/Gohara/Fried knocking on the door in AAA and maybe even breaking into the rotation. Exciting stuff.

2R, 44 - Kyle Muller (HS) (LHP) (Age : 19)

4R, 109 - Bryse Wilson (HS) (RHP) (Age : 19)
2017 (A) - 2.48 ERA, 3.09 FIP, 9.1 K/9, 2.1 BB/9, 1.01 WHIP

27R, 799 - Corbin Clouse (4YR) (LHP) (Age : 22)
2017 (A+) - 2.31 ERA, 2.47 FIP, 11.8 K/9, 5.4 BB/9, 1.49 WHIP
2017 (AA) - 4.15 ERA, 5.79 FIP, 12.5 K/9, 7.3 BB/9, 1.96 WHIP

Soroka, Allard, Wentz, Anderson and Wilson are all bonified studs, and Weigel proved to not be too far behind. Muller is a bit behind but everyone knew that would be the case based on his pitching experience level.

Passan with a deep dive in to the Braves (mostly) and White Sox systems.

quote:

MLB.com’s ranking of the Braves system, for example, has outfielder Class A center fielder Cristian Pache as a slightly above-average fielder. The Braves believe Pache is the next Andruw Jones defensively, and that tracks with other organizations’ assessments of his glove, and, seeing as center field defense is among the most valued commodities in the sport today, Pache’s standing among the general prospect-watching population does not match that inside the game.

quote:

One veteran scout in the Braves organization thinks Joey Wentz – by most accounts their sixth-best pitching prospect and on no top 100 lists anywhere – is actually the finest of the bunch. Which is saying something, because those other five – Mike Soroka, Ian Anderson, Kyle Wright, Luiz Gohara and Kolby Allard – are the finest collection gathered by one team in years.

quote:

While there isn’t a consensus on the Braves’ best starting prospect – for what it’s worth, Soroka got the most votes – Michael Kopech takes the title for Chicago

quote:

The wonder of the Braves’ system is two-fold. First is that Atlanta pushes its prospects like no other organization. Pitchers throw more innings. Players get promotions faster. More than one prospect watcher has suggested the Braves do this in part for the boost it gives the players in other organizations’ metrics. Young players at high levels always rate better. FanGraphs’ “stats-only” midseason prospect ranking had eight Braves in the top 100, including 19-year-old outfielder Ronald Acuna, who’s at Triple-A No. 1, and shortstop Ozzie Albies, who’s 20 and now in the big leagues, No. 2.

Beyond the leverage that advantage could gain them in trade talks – and the Braves have discussed plenty of deals, whether for Quintana or Sonny Gray or Chris Archer, that involve packaging some from their farm system – it is risky to invite failure by pushing kids too hard.

Really nice to see Allard having some solid K rate performances lately, he had been scuffling a bit. Our pitching depth in our minors is absurd.

Just got back from the GBraves game tonight. Had to leave early due to taking my 21 month old son and there being a rain delay. The Braves offense lit the Bats up. Acuna Matata hit a mutha frickin rocket to the base of the LF wall for a double and then stole 3rd for good measure.
