Wally Joyner
The Braves always seem to go through these weird periods where they just can't seem to fill a spot in the lineup with a quality player. Between Galarraga and LaRoche, here were their 1B: 2001 - Brogna/Helms/Caminiti/Franco, 2002 - Julio/Matt Franco/Helms, 2003- Robert Fick/Julio

Some of the great September Waiver Wire pickups in Braves history should be on this list as well
Jack Wilson - 2011
Elliot Johnson - 2013
Scott Downs - 2013
James Russell - 2014

I could participate in this thread for days.
Quilvio Veras and Reggie Sanders
The Braves had this strange fixation with getting someone who was considered a "true leadoff hitter". I don't know the other factors that came into play since the internet wasn't going strong back in those days, but this fixation led to dealing Justice and Grissom for 1 year of Lofton and Klesko and Bret Boone (add him to this list of random players by the way) for 2 half years of Veras and 1 year of piss poor Reggie. I remember Reggie hitting a lot of home runs in the years before and after his Braves stint but sucking arse for us.

How bout the yearly turnover at 1st base?
Robert Fick, Tex, Kotchman, LaRoche, Craig Wilson, Scotty Thorman, LaRoche again.
Still, the greatest Braves roster changes was the reclamation project starting pitcher. A Braves speciality.

The 00s was a strange time in Braves history.

I often forget that JD Drew was our best player one of the last years we wont he division.
Also, Walt Weiss, Brett Boone, and Jeff Blauser are the infielders that alway take me back to being a kid

We'll hang the pennant on Blausers chin

I remember thinking as a kid that Blauser looked like a 70 year old man out there and was amazed that an old person could play shortstop for the Braves
It was the nose and the chin

Blauser used to piss my Dad off so much because he put up big numbers for a shortstop, got paid by the Braves, and then proceeded to suck.

You forgot Lemke.
I didn't forget Lemmer which is why I didn't include him. These are just guys that I'll be sitting there and think "oh yeah, I remember him." Lemke still comes around on Braves radio and all that so he's not all that random to me.
Now this one may not be random either, but Big Cat Galarraga deserves some love in this thread:

quote:isn't that the way the Braves ended up with Roberto Kelly for a year or two as well?

I will show my age, but the Braves of the early/mid 80s seemed to like getting players who had torn it up for other teams but were then in the last years of their playing careers. Claudell Washington was an all star in 1975, Chris Chambless won two World Series with the Yankees in the late '70s, Ken Griffey Sr. won two titles with the Big Red Machine. All three played for the Braves between '81 and '88.

One of the Most Appropriate Braves Acquisitions ever.
Slick fielding two-time AL All-Star 2nd baseman with .290 career BA, gets pissed off at Toronto management in 1986 and gets traded to Atlanta, where he misses the entire '87 season for a mystery illness (thought to be Lyme disease), returns for a handful of games in '88 (hitting .117 in 64 AB) before being released.
