Atlanta Hawks All-Star forward Paul Millsap has opted out of his $21.4 million contract for next season to become a free agent, league sources told The Vertical.

Atlanta has publicly stated that Millsap will be a top priority in July free agency, and Millsap has expressed interest in re-signing.

Millsap averaged 24.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in the Hawks’ first-round series loss to the Washington Wizards. In 69 regular-season games, he averaged 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds, and earned his fourth All-Star appearance.

Expected. There's a chance we resign him but it's inconsequential at this point.

Tony Ressler, Wes Wilcox, Budenholzer and whoever decided to get rid of Ferry have collectively fricked this franchise for the next 5 years at least.

We should've traded him for some young talent/draft picks before the deadline.

But we have to bow down to Nique, franchise be damned.

We're screwed either way. Ideally, I'd like to have him as long as we're stuck with Howard and Bazemore and just start a rebuild after.

what must be done eventually should be done immediately

IMO they should try to trade Dwight for something, anything, and consider Baze a sunk cost.

Team is stuck, and doubling down on Millsap just prolongs the time spent in purgatory.

I read a report from maybe a month ago that Dwight's trade value is maybe a mid-2nd round pick, even with his good play this year. No one wants him, and lets be honest, if we traded him, he would pout because it seems like he really wants to be home in Atlanta.

As much as Millsap has meant for this team these past four years, its time for him to move on. We dont need to be saddled with a 5 year 200 mil contract for a guy that is 32 years old.

Getting rid of Baze and Howard are the only way to rebuild. I don't see anyone taking those contracts though.

If all we can get for him is a 2nd rounder though, I don't see the point. Yeah we would gain cap space, but we could do that by letting Millsap walk (as painful as it may be) and trading Baze.

As much as I think Howard is a horrible fit, it's only a 3 year deal and he's not an awful player.

The bottom line is, all of our options suck dick right now. We just have to committ to something.

I pull for the Hawks but this is exactly what they get for firing Danny Ferry.

I bet the civil rights leaders in ATL would be happier if they would have shut up and now could enjoy a good basketball team.

I don't think we are going to match the 4 year 71 mil by the knicks for Hardaway Jr. What do you guys think they should do about Jamal Crawford, Keep him for the next 2 years or go ahead and buy him out? I feel like buy him out, because if we do tank and have a top 5 pick next year then over the next 2 years we can rebuild through the draft. We get a top 3 protected pick from the clippers for 2018, a top 14 pick from Minnesota for 2018, our own 1st round pick. And 2019 we get Cleveland's 1st round pick, and We still have Ours. Sounds like a decent chance to start a rebuild if you ask me. I'm sure I'm missing some picks also.

At this rate there is no reason we shouldn't have #1 pick in 2018

How old is LBJ Jr again?
