He is signed at an average of about 28 mil a year until he turns 38 years old. In the final 3 years of the deal, the salaries are 29, 25, and 25. So at what I imagine will be the peak of his career as he starts the downturn, he'll be getting 32 mil.

Call me crazy, but assuming he doesn't have an epic career collapse, I don't think 32 mil will be all that bad for a guy who can put up 40 HRs annually by the time it reaches that level.

His contract also allows him to opt out after 2020, so at a minimum you get him for 3 years.

Would you make a blockbuster trade for him? What would it take? I would let them have either one of Albies or Swanson (preferably Swanson), 2 top tier pitching prospects (Anderson and Soroka), and they would need to take on Kemp's 15 mil a year (after you account for the portion that LAD and SD pay him) for the next 2 years, but if their goal is to free up money, then that's a steal for them in order to unload Stanton's contract. It's possible they would want Inciarte as well. I only give them Ender if they take Swanson instead of Albies so we can maintain some sort of leadoff threat.

So how about this: Swanson, Anderson, Soroka, Ender, Kemp for Stanton and AJ Ramos? Is that fair for both sides?

I would have to feel really good about his health.

If so, an outfield of Stanton, Inciarte and Acuña for 5 years? Drool.

Ramos isn't a Marlin anymore my man.

Remove Ender and that's probably a fair trade for Stanton, but trading Ender would kind of defeat the purpose of trading for Stanton, you'd be creating a hole to fill a hole.

Beyond that, we can't afford Stanton. No team is going to be successful with almost half their payroll tied up into two players (Stanton and Freddie).

I also want no part of Stanton and his contract from ages 33-38. Big guys like Stanton who K a bunch and struggle with contact at times generally don't age well at all, I see that contract being straight up ugly in the end.

We talked about it in the MSB thread, but I would be excited. We really haven't had a league known superstar since Maddox, Glavine, and Smoltz. I would be good with trading Swanson. I don't see anything now, or in his past that indicates he will be a superstar.

Ramos is irrelevant. I was looking at their stats and saw a capable relief pitcher which we need. Remove him and add someone else or not, doesn't matter.

I don't see that removing Ender creates a hole. Put Acuna in CF, Stanton in RF, and keep Markakis in LF. Lineup would be:

Ozzie
Acuna
Freddie
Stanton
Markakis
Catcher
3B
Camargo

I predict we will probably keep Flowers. 3B is still unknown to me.

We can easily afford Stanton's contract and the excitement and production he'd bring would be worth it.

We've wasted a ton of money on veteran contracts over the past 3 seasons either to acquire prospects or whatever. It's time we spent money on actual production.

Hard pass on a lineup that includes Camargo, Markakis and someone like Ruiz or a dirt cheap free agent. Staff would still be very questionable as well and you would have no financial flexibility.

This is not a move to make when your team as currently constructed is still a sub 75 win team.

Trading Swanson at his lowest value would be awful as well especially when there is no clear replacement long term.

There is a zero chance Liberty Media approved any deal that brings in that kind of contract, either. It would fly in the face of literally all evidence over the past decade.

Chipper was more regional. That pitching trio was a MLB headline. GS, when healthy, will put people in the stands.

and thats the problem.

2016-43 games
2015-88 games
2013-46 games
2012-39 games

2011 and 2014 are the only two years he has played in over 140 games.

I wouldnt give up anything for him, nor would I want him at 30+ million a year.
