Probably right BUT I really don't think Liberty Media
is the type of organization that's big on opening the pocket books.

I'd much rather have different ownership.

Kimbrell had to go. We simply weren't a good team and he had a large contract. A great closer is worth a lot to a good team but is basically meaningless to a bad team.

The Wood trade was criminal and I really hated to see Simba go. Those were 2 guys I wish we'd held on to.

There is like one rule in baseball that applies to every league that uses a pitcher. Never get rid of a lefty who has potential. My blood pressure goes up thinking about Wood. (Twss)

Speaking of lefties, anyone notice the year Mike Minor is having out of the KC bullpen?5-1, 1.87 ERA

Quite the comeback for em.He pretty much missed most of the last 2 years.

Man,we had some horrible luck with pitchers in '13 and '14. Medlen,Beachy and Minor all had shots at very good to great careers.

Attaching the Upton contract to Kimbrel was a mistake. Who cares how much Upton is making when you are terrible.

I will eat crow on the deal as I liked it at the time, but San Diego's return made me change my mind.

Wood/Peraza deal was horrendous at the time and almost everyone knew it.

Simmons deal I think is incomplete. I like Newcomb but I am fearful this FO undervalues defense.

Something to consider with Wood...

According to fangraphs, his primary pitch was a sinker. His average sinker velocities were as follows:

2013: 92.4
2014: 90.5
2015: 89.7

2016: 91.3
2017: 92.5

It could be that maybe the Braves considered Wood a player who was regressing. Velocity is not the end all/be all for a pitcher, especially a sinker baller, but it could be a partial explanatory factor as to why they traded a young lefty who had put up decent numbers (with one season of really good numbers).

but his hitting has always been suspect. I wouldnt trust his power either. His SLG this year is .407 and ISO is .133. He hasnt had stats that high in 4 years.

Up to .302 BA,.460 SLG,.812 OPS

Once again,he's always had great instincts and an off the charts baseball IQ.To think he wouldn't improve at the plate is absurd.

Like I've said over at braves-nation, Simmons is one of two cases in which I deeply doubt he performs as well as he has this year in Atlanta and why I don't have a good feeling about how the MLB club helps young players grow.
The reason he's hitting really well is because the Angels have simply allowed him to be who he is, which is a dead pull hitter. The Braves would've continued tinkering, saying hey, you're probably better going the other way as a hitter and it would have continued to f*ck with his head.
That's not to say he would not be a HUGE upgrade anyway because he would be right now.
