With all the coaching upheaval already underway, it looks like there will be some really good DC talent available when the coaching carousel comes 'round. Given the fact that our defense, specifically the back 7, has regressed and we can't stop a high school 7-on-7 team when it comes to our pass D, would you be open to moving on from Robb Smith if it meant one of these guys:

Bud Foster -- DC, Va. Tech
Jeremy Pruitt -- DC, Georgia
Justin Wilcox -- DC, USCw
Lorenzo Ward -- co-DC, USCe
Jon Hoke -- co-DC, USCe

Again, it's most likely a moot point, but Makes for interesting discussion with the likely and/or current openings.

As for me, I'd take Pruitt, Foster, and maybe Ward over Robb Smith. I'd leave the other two. Any I'm missing that are worth a mention?

No. I wouldn't want to just toss out Robb after one dissapointing season.

Moving on from Robb after the job he did last year just deems like a bit of a knee jerk.

Wouldn't take anyone right now, but isn't Pruitt being accused of a bunch of shite including punching his own boss?

Robb didn't forget how to coach in 1 year.

Problem is lack of talent in the back 7.

I'll vote for keeping Robb Smith

I don't know if you've heard it anywhere yet, but Pruitt isn't an option. I heard somewhere that UGA fans hate him and that he punched one of his fellow coaches IN THE FACE.

After the performance of Robb Smith's defense last season we were praising him like the second coming of football Jesus. I think that HIS side of that defense is still here, he just doesn't have the players this season that he did last. Regardless, if you add this year and last year together you still get an average defense, which is better than what we've had the last 15+ years. The defense is extremely guilty of playing to their competition this year, and seem to have better performances on the road. That defense against Bama the first 3/4 of the game was stifling, and the only reason the score ended up like it did was because the offense didn't give them any help whatsoever.

His TT game plan was a complete head scratcher but I'm hoping he'll get his guys to play their best ball as the season progresses, like he did last year.

He's got talent in the back, he just continues to line them up off the ball at the snap. I think he lacks confidence in our safeties. He would probably be the one to know.

But he could have played with nine guys on defense and not done any worse in the TT game. They never punted.

A couple more of those and we can run him out on a rail for all I care.

DJ Dean has been a big let down this year. Still gets confused in coverage at the most inopportune times.

Collins is playing better than I thought possible for him.

Looking at it that way, it seems like the perceived regression might be personnel as much as coaching.

We had problems with this last year but were able to generate a very good pass rush to mask it.

The loss of Flowers and Philon have really hurt.

Loss of three NFL caliber players and a solid corner with Mitchell on Defense is what happened this year. I think Smith is a good DC, hopefully he stays a couple more years and we pony up .

Agreed. He was criminally underrated at nickel, and his loss has been vastly understated.

It's a hypothetical. I didn't say I wanted Smith gone, just highlighting that this is an oddly deep year for DCs in the coaching carousel pool.

We know he works though. We are starved for talent this year and I don't think that is a reason to shite can someone who delivered a top ten defense last year.

We are starting to sound like Auburn, "Natty appearance, a bad call at QB, and the defense needs a year to shape up? Fire everyone!"

Jesus titty fricking Christ. Is that who we want to be? Christ I am depressed.
