I realize Bert probably has one more year at least, but hypothetically speaking... Would Gus leave a good situation in Auburn to come back to Arkansas?

I would take a vacation from Hog football if they hired Gus.

Man I've supported every coach on hire; even John L initially, but if we were to hire Gus I'm out.

By the time Bert's buyout makes firing him doable Gus will have lost his fire and will take the job for a huge salary and 4-5 years of coasting and half-assing it in Fayetteville.

Doesn't bother me. People pretending Gus is a bad coach is what makes us look bad. Especially the ones who still think Bert is better. Our fan base has been really pety over a lot of the Auburn stuff. What have they done to deserve all the hate? Out-recruit us in our own state?

Gus has been successfull everywhere he has been. He has won the SEC already in his short time as a head coach.

He's not from Iowa. He has recruiting ties to the south. He finds players that fit his system.

Yes his wife is cray but that's about all you can knock him for.

I'm fine with Bert packing and being gone by tomorrow.

I still don't want Gus. Can't we dream a little bigger than that? He was doing so badly at the beginning of the season that he had to stop calling plays. Did you see any of those games? I did and it was like he'd lost his mind.

Like Jeremy Johnson? Maybe he's better than Bert but he's not worthy of adoration IMO.

I see that as more of a positive at this point. He was willing to make changes quickly and turned the season around.

I'm results oriented. I can't help but notice that Gus has had success everywhere he's been. High school, OC at Arkansas, OC at Tulsa, OC at Auburn, HC at stAte, HC at Auburn. Everywhere he's gone has seen immediate success. You can't attribute all of that to luck or Cam.

I don't think it was so much he was willlling. I think he was forced to do it.

It really doesn't matter tho, he's not coming here and it appears several of us are thankful for that.

I dint know how the decision was made. A lot of it was probably just a result of playing good defenses early in the year anyway.

I'm just interested in hearing an explanation for all the Gus hate...

If Gus were to come back now I'm out. He had his moment to shine but I don't think he is the one to lead us. The division on our fanbase would be disastrous.

I realize it is easy to blame the coach...and that's what he gets paid 4M a year for.

However...I think the real issue is pretty obvious...recruiting. And yes...that's his job also, but we've also got to admit that we've never been able to consistently land the types of classes that many other teams in the SEC are able to land. Reasons for that are well discussed and in my view can all be fixed (OU gets kids to go to Norman OK for God's sake).

Until we decide to take more focus on recruiting at least somewhere in the stratosphere of Bama, LSU, Auburn, TN, GA, FL, A&M and now (at least lately) Ole MIss...then we're going to keep being a 7-8 win team with the occaisional 9-10 possible no matter who coaches us.

Petrino had the WR corp to dream of and did win...but remember...he still got jackhammered by Bama and LSU....I think it was 41-17 LSU when we were ranked 3rd in the nation with a lot to play for....go figure.

I also think that Bielema's classes have outranked Petrion and Nutt's on average...but (if that's correct...and I didn't look it up) not by any meaningful amount. Regardless of who's recruiting we seem to be between low 20s and low 40s class ranking. Guess what...that's where we're finishing in rankings at the end of most years also.

We prolly gotta get a lot better at cheating.

Do folks actually think that we actively try to recruit on a level below those guys on purpose?

No but if schools like Baylor, tcu, and Ole miss can start recruiting high 4 star talent dammit so can we! Yes briles started winming with shite talent ( which is also a sign that it is possible to find diamonds in the rough) but by the end he was getting quality athletes tk come to baylor. fricking baylor! When he left people were chasing his recruits so if someone can do that there I know it can be done here. Don't use the copout tgat we don't produce as a state. There's plenty of talent around us. We're right next to Texas Louisiana tennesee and missippi. I bet close to 1/3 to half of the ESPN 300 comes from those states

And I will probably be melting until we beat lsu or Florida and if we don't I will melt until next september. 6-6 in year 4 with this good of a quarterback Is unfrickingacceptable.
