Obviously a lot of speculation in this post, but assuming they fire Hoke and we continue to improve this season, wouldn't he be a better choice than Lester and many others?

His buyout is too big right now.

Negative. Demographics change is turning Michigan into Wyoming.

Buyout + population heading south = B1G going downhill for a longtime

All of this.

Bert to Michigan wouldn't happen for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which are his buyout and the fact that he just left the Big Ten because the SEC will be getting 2 teams in the playoff on the regular.

Long is the one I worry more about.

I worry more about Iowa coming calling once they finally get rid of Ferentz.

After this job Bert might think he has had enough with rebuilding dumpster fires.

Burt's a hog farmer, he's not leaving.

The Big 10 is too cold for the wifey.
Now, he could take the FL job & own the eastern division.

There has been beyond normal activity at Drake lately. Would not surprise me if names were mentioned. Multiple XO jets leaving around the same day to random destinations that don't make any sense. I believe this deals more with Long. Jeff could have hosted a payoff meeting but the flight patters don't make any sense.

Caveat, I work near the airport. I have a pretty decent idea of the normal air traffic at Drake.

I don't think they would offer, a bit of shine has got off Bert since he came down here. A year or two from now if the Hogs are doing as well as we think they will there will be a lot more interest in him.

If they were interested in him the question becomes would they be willing to flash the cash, not only for his salary but for the assistants, that it would take to lure him up north? He wouldn't come cheap.

Would he be interested? Well he wants to make the playoffs and the top B10 team is almost a lock to make it in. No matter how objective the selection committee is the lure of a Michigan or Ohio State is hard to deny.

I do think it is more likely right now that someone tries to poach Jeff Long then the Bertster.

Plus, doesn't Michigan have a policy of not paying buyouts or something like that. That was one of the sticking points with Rich Rod -- he had a $4M buyout from WVU that he was going to have to pay himself, so he tried to weasel his way out of it by claiming the AD didn't keep promises to build new facilities. IIRC, it was settled via arbitration and Rodriguez and Michigan each paid $2M. I don't know if they had to pony up a buyout to get Hoke from SDSU, but it couldn't have been much.

That's a really long-winded way of saying Michigan is stuck in the past to an insane degree.

A good point Feral. Building a top ten program isn't cheap unless you get insanely lucky.

Michigan deserves to suck with that policy. They need to get off their high horse. they have not been good for a good long while now

As long as Long is on the playoff committee, everyone is going to want him as their AD

Big man is growing on me so I hope we can keep him around for a while.

But I don't concern myself much with Jeff Long. He will do whatever he feels is in his best interest.

No, now that Bert has been able to surround himself with southern food there is no way he goes back north and eats that food. Catfish and okra, what has the north got to compete with that?
