At least give BA a chance on third down to make something happen. Call play action. He's done nothing but make plays, and was carving State's D up on that last drive.

I really don't understand. Especially given our problems with field goals.

Should have tried for a first down on 3rd and 5.

Oh well.

That pretty well sums up my views on the matter. It happens. I'd rather lose a great close game then get demolished.

Exactly, it was a good game. We could have folded when it was 31-14.

We fricking wasted Brandon Allen's GOAT game on an inconsistent kicker. Seriously, that pisses me off.

I like Bert, but that was the worst late game decision making I've ever seen at any level of football.

That's a stretch. We probably should have tried for a first down, but Bert can't block.

Even if that guy gets blocked, there's no guarantee Hedlund would have made that kick.

But that's the point.

We couldn't try an end-around? A jet sweep? PA involving the TEs? Sprinkle was unguardable in the red zone tonight. There are ways we could've kept it on the ground or called clock-burning plays without simply calling dives.

We were running up the middle because he was centering the ball, which is stupid because it was an extremely makeable distance FG. If your answer to that is that we needed to give Hedlund his best possible shot for the attempt, then you're proving my point about how stupid it is to put the game into the hands of an inconsistent freshman.

the whole fg unit is a mess. Hedlund was incredible in high school and just hasn't brought that with him to the college game.

The problem wasn't with Hedlund, but with Voelzke. The kick looked like it would have been good, but Voelzke's man blocked it as soon as it left Hedlund's foot. He went right by Voelzke to get there.

LINK Should've trusted BA

Not gonna lie - I teared up. These types of losses are just almost too painful, and this game was an important one on many levels to get a win. ... I agree with pretty much all of the commentary & analysis in this small article - BA has proven in the past several weeks as well as tonight that the intangible "it" factor which has been missing most of his career has finally "clicked" with him at this late date - something I truly didn't believe would ever happen with him. But since it has, and he's proven himself to everyone in the free world that he's able to actually get the wins under pressure, WHY, OH WHY WOULD YOU NOT TRUST HIM TO PASS ONE TIME IN THE FINAL SERIES OF DOWNS TO POSSIBLY ... ACTUALLY PROBABLY ... GET THE WIN?!?!?!?!!!!??? THREE RUNS UP THE MIDDLE?!?!? REALLY?!?!?

And I'm not even going to comment on the defense except yes, they were awful, especially the secondary - no surprise there!!! That was pretty much expected by most who've watched our passing D, or lack of, and our horrid tackling this season, so not even dwelling on the fact that yes, if our D had shown up a little, we might not have been in the position to win in the clutch, but AS EXPECTED, our secondary had more holes than Swiss cheese against a great QB & receivers. So, yes, that's the position we were in to the surprise of no one, and it's not like we haven't been there before many times this year, so WHY did the head coach & offensive coordinator act as though THEY HAD NOT in the final series of this game?!?!?!??

CBB trusted B. Allen enough to go for 2 to win against OM instead of play for a tie, so WHY IN THE WORLD would Bielema & Enos not trust BA's endgame tonight when momentum was in his favor, when he was playing incredibly well, actually he was smokin' hot (SET AN SEC RECORD FOR PASSING TDs IN REGULATION - 7 OF THEM!!!!), and our freshman kicker has been untested for the most part this season in important, under pressure game win or lose situations?!?!?!? This makes absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL!!! WHY?!?!? Three runs up the middle, ZERO PASS ATTEMPTS BY ALLEN, WHO HAD ALREADY THROWN 7 TOUCHDOWNS TONIGHT?!?!?!? THEN A FIELDGOAL ATTEMPT BY AN INEXPERIENCED KICKER?!?!?!? This goes completely against the endgame philosophy that Bielema & Enos have shown all season, and is inexplicable considering the manner in which BA had been playing the last several weeks, not to mention in this game tonight.

Bielema has made it a point to back Brandon Allen for years, even when he really didn't deserve it because he had proven himself to be untrustworthy under these circumstances - always had the ability & talent, but didn't have the end game moxy & choked. Well, now that Allen has consistently shown for weeks that he's a different player - one that all Arkansas fans have hoped BA would become for years, one who shows he's finally got the complete package & executes in the clutch, and who was on fire tonight - WHY would Bielema NOT go WITH the odds and put his confidence in Allen at the end of tonight's game by calling at least ONE pass play in the final series??? In all probability, this baffling & unwise decision to run 3 straight plays up the middle then put confidence in the inexperienced, untested kicker, instead of going with the odds & putting confidence in our red hot, experienced QB who's earned that confidence by executing in high pressure endgame situations for the past several weeks, cost us the game considering the position we were in at the end of it, not taking into account the terrible defense; again, that was expected by all, but if it surprised the coaches, that's another fail on their part, and another reason not to completely trust or have complete confidence in THEM yet, PARTICULARLY Bielema. ... Ftr, this is a criticism of Bielema & his decisions on our last possession, mainly, not the FG kicker who was not at fault since the line broke down & let in the penetration, basically untouched, allowing the ball to be tipped, making the miss inevitable. However, regardless if the field goal was missed or had been good, Bielema's decision not to have Allen pass during the last possession remains a highly questionable call ... actually, a very bad one.

I really hope this doesn't deflate the Hogs for next week's final game against MIZZOU because we really need that win for many reasons, but mainly for the players, definitely the seniors who've come so far & been through so much, and for the younger ones as well to end the regular season at home on a positive note. And I give my personal award to Brandon Allen for the most unbelievably incredible improvement & turn around in a season for any player I've ever seen. His talent & ability were never in question; his mental capability for being a clinch endgame QB was, and by close to mid-season, I didn't believe everything would ever come together & "click" for him if it hadn't by then. I couldn't be happier for him that it has. I just hope he keeps the confidence for his remaining 2 games ever as a Hog - regular season at home & bowl game - and doesn't let Bielema's/Enos's decision last night affect him because that could be interpreted as a bit of a slap in the face, imo, if he lets it. ... I just really do not get Bielema sometimes at all.

Btw, this was the second short FG attempt jinx which commentators put on SEC place kickers yesterday that I heard, maybe more, Idk - Verne put the voodoo on LSU's kicker just prior to his 27-yd FG attempt when he stated the dude was the only "perfect" kicker left in the NCAA this season. ... Then the damn ESPN announcer blurted out that Arkansas' making this field goal would "seal MSU's fate" regarding this game - then what happened, happened, it was tipped/no good, and we lost.

I'm honestly surprised he didn't catch the dang thing. That kick had no chance. But yeah, we should have at least tried for the end zone once.
