Because he isnt necessarily a knock it out of the park hire and the hire would divide the fanbase.

I would have been been more willing to roll the dice while he was an assistant now that i know what you get im anti the hire entirely.

Not a gus fan. Would rather have a young energetic coach with deep Texas ties. Preferably one that runs a spread so we can get alot of Texas recruits since that's 90% of what east texas runs

And back to dales original idiotic statement saying the read option was a fad that is going to die so we don't need to get a coach who runs the read option (which basically means don't get anyone running the spread) urban meye, nick sabanr and dabo swinney run the read option as a staple in their offense and they are the top coaches in college football. Meyer has been running it since Utah. I'm really curious at to when he thinks the read option is going to die?

The read option is a very small percentage of spread teams, the term spread is over used anyway, Broyles offense was said to be a spread offense back in the 60s, look it up.

Just because two of this small percent are in the SEC West doesn't mean it is prevalent on a national scale.

You are confusing teams that call read/option plays with teams that run read/option, highlighted by 66% of the above as running the read/option instead of calling read option plays being wrong. The read/option fad hit its peak when the every NFL team was running the Wildcat every weekend, it didn't last long. I guess you don't remember how the run/shoot offense was unstoppable and never going to die, how many teams still run it?

wtf the zone read or read option is a play. That's all. It's used in many offenses. Now if you meant the teams that run a style like the spread option then yes it is very few. Although again, Ohio State, Clemson, Oregon, Alabama, and auburn all have HEAVY spread option based plays in their offense.

Whether you like his style of play or not, or whether you think he's a flaming D-bag or... well OK I haven't really heard anyone dispute that claim... Gus will not be the Arkansas coach.

Arkansas will not hire a head football coach with close ties to major boosters in state after the Nutt years. The AD does not want to have to go through the bitter divide it had when Nutt was toxic to much of the state but still had the support of the Little Rock boosters. Malzahn would be toxic to at least half the state just walking in the front door before he coached a single game.

Its the same reasoning as why we don't play in state schools in any sports. University of Arkansas sports is built on the concept of the school represents the state and nothing can be allowed to endanger that. Changing that would be like Alabama deciding to deemphasize football in favor of golf.

If a coach came along that was universally beloved across the state then he might be hired. So if football Jesus shows up in Arkansas he's got a chance.

I second this, he seems like he thinks he's entitled.
